Job Description

Job Overview:

The IRC in Boise provides trauma-informed services, including transitional housing, to refugees and other qualified immigrants to support a positive resettlement experience and the achievement of client self-sufficiency. The IRC in Boise operates Monarch Landing, a 50 – 100 room hotel as a transitional housing facility to provide a safe, replenishing home when people first arrive in Boise, while IRC housing staff work to find each family a six to twelve month apartment lease. Reporting to the Housing Manager who organizes day to day operations at Monarch Landing, the Maintenance Technician will fix broken or inoperable items within unit rooms and common spaces as needed. This position is occasional, part-time, at hours mutually agreed to by IRC and the employee, to fill in where maintenance service provided by a third party cannot be delivered as quickly as needed, or with the substantive knowledge needed, to protect the safety and well-being of a Monarch Landing resident.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Receiving instructions on repairs needed from the Housing Manager. Gathering necessary equipment from IRC / Monarch Landing storage. Unclogging sinks, tubs and toilets. Restoring electricity via flipping breakers. Diagnosing causes of broken or inoperable equipment. Fix other items that don’t require a licensed contractor or professional. Communicating what repairs need the aid of a licensed professional i.e. electrician or plumber. Document all repairs following IRC recordkeeping and reporting requirements. Other duties as assigned. Communicate with the Housing manager and the designated representative of the property owner regarding defined expectations, boundaries and limitations. Keep a detailed log of incidents, repairs and closures.

Qualifications

Education: • No minimum education level required.

Work Experience:

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in building maintenance with standard U.S. equipment preferred, particularly with experience in construction or maintenance of plumbing fixtures, electricity, general maintenance. Demonstrated Skills & Competencies: • Demonstrated ability to promote an organizational culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality. Ability to lead in a way that recognizes that IRC’s work is best accomplished through the true collaboration of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives. • Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships. • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment. • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. Attention to detail and accuracy in work product. Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by client group is desired. Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.
