The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance for relief, emergency school feeding, nutrition and food assistance for assets creation through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Logistics Officer (Port Operations), and the overall supervision of the Head of Sub-Office, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

• Provide support to logistics operations and activities, following standard processes and facilitating, directly or indirectly, the effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries; • Ensure the load and discharge of cargo is performed accurately and timely; • Acts as a focal point for any stevedoring issues that may arise with assigned vessel; • Interact with trucking companies to facilitate the timely delivery of containers; • Assist in the co-ordination of dispatches of food as per dispatch plan and FIFO principle to avoid demurrage, detention charges, prolonged storage and damage of commodities; • Follow-up on custom clearance procedures of all WFP shipments with clearing & forwarding agents; • Track of WFP containers arriving at the Berbera Port, monitoring their de-stuffing/release to destinations including those with overdue lay-days to the clearing Agents/hierarchies for preventive/corrective actions; • Track and record the movement of food and non-food items through the WFP corporate system, and provide reports on movement of WFP commodities as required; • Maintain healthy and professional working relationships with agents of the superintendent, the freight-forwarder, port officials and other agents of the port and escalate issues to supervisor as appropriate; • Maintain filling systems and archives for easy retrieval of information; • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education Background:

Education:

Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certification in logistics and supply chain management is desirable.

Experience:

Three years of progressively responsible support experience including at least two years in the field of shipping, logistics operations or procurement. Experience using and maintaining supply chain databases to monitor contracts, shipments, pipeline information and/or food stocks is desirable.

Language:

Knowledge & Skills:

Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali is a requirement.

• Sound knowledge and ability to interpret and apply logistics policies, operational processes; • Demonstrated experience in monitoring shipping operations; • Experience utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheets, excel among others
