Result of Service Implementation of sustainable improvements of the alternative learning programme at the Knowledge and Learning Commons.

Duties and Responsibilities The Knowledge and Learning Commons, at the UN Library & Archives Geneva, generates new opportunities for learning, knowledge exchange and collaboration for diplomats, UN staff and interns in Geneva and around the world. The Commons manages many types of learning sessions, products and events based on the needs of the institution and its clients. For this position, the consultant will work closely with the management team to develop strategies, monitor and evaluate the work process, communicate the results and provide recommendations. The Consultant will also work with the Events and Multimedia Coordinators to create and design sessions in a collaborative environment. The following functions are required:

  • Supports development of policy guidance on alternative learning approaches and library evolution, including research, review and analysis of issues and trends with stakeholders and clients.

  • Prepares reports and presentations to stakeholders on the research outcomes with recommendations for implementation.

  • Develops and maintains a detailed programme management plan, sets milestones, implements and maintains statistics and monitors progress; identifies related risks and escalates any such risks in a timely manner; proposes technical solutions and, if applicable, implements them including quality assurance and user acceptance testing.

  • Establishes programme evaluation reports, such as a quarterly and annual partnership report, including stakeholders’ feedback and recommendations for programme improvements; coordinates discussions on periodic updates of the action plan with all stakeholders to ensure final products meet established objectives.

  • Designs, coordinates and/or organizes alternative learning sessions and events, including idea development, administration, communication, project documentation and team coordination.

  • Liaises with clients, stakeholders and internal partners and colleagues to ensure the successful preparation and implementation of activities and products.

  • For each activity or product, drafts the communication plan and activity/product summaries, background information and other communication material in French and English and produces videos and other multimedia products.

  • Drafts and manages post-event/post-implementation reports and contributes to the production and dissemination of relevant information resources for participants.

    Qualifications/special skills Education: A master’s degree in events management or a first-level university degree in education, media and communication, events management, journalism, international relations or related field with three additional years of relevant work experience possibly accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. At least 4 years of experience in one of the following fields: event management and coordination, multimedia communications, public information, project management, journalism or related area is required.

Skills: - Experience in research, monitoring and evaluation is required. - Experience working in event production and coordination is required; experience in online event production is desirable. - Experience in graphic design (using InDesign and the Adobe Creative Suite) and multimedia communications is desirable. - Experience with gathering data, updating Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems and other systems for managing attendees is desirable.

Languages Fluency in English (both oral and written) and good knowledge of French is required; Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Additional Information Depending on satisfactory performance and achievements, the duration of this contract can be between 6 to 24 months. Depending on qualifications and years of experience, the monthly salary range would vary between CHF 5900 and CHF 7000.
