Background and Rationale** The [Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC/UNESCO)](https://ioc.unesco.org/) is the United Nations body responsible for supporting global ocean science and services. [The UNESCO/IOC Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific (WESTPAC)](https://ioc-westpac.org/) is the regional body of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission for the Western Pacific and its adjacent areas. Its mission is to advance ocean knowledge through ocean research, ocean observations and services, and capacity development, in order to assist Member States in achieving the sustainable development of ocean, seas and marine resources. The Sub-Commission co-designs, and co-develops its various programmes and activities, with Member States to address the common ocean priorities of the region, namely: ocean and climate; marine biodiversity, seafood safety and security; and ocean ecosystem health. Meanwhile, WESTPAC also assists the IOC to coordinate regional engagement in the [UN Ocean Decade](https://www.oceandecade.org/). We are seeking a Knowledge Management Specialist to build, collect, and support the systematic development, organization, and storage of various programme information and knowledge. The incumbent can work remotely. **Key Duties and Responsibilities** ----------------------------------- **2. Key Duties and Responsibilities** Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for the Asia and Pacific, and the direct supervision of the Head of the WESTPAC Office, the incumbent shall perform the following duties: - Support the objectives and main lines of work of the Sub-Commission in developing knowledge management products for online use, including infographics and graphics for visually appealing webpage; - Develop, collect, and support the dissemination of, knowledge on ocean and ocean science in the Western Pacific and adjacent areas, and in cooperation with other programme staff, create, improve and upload relevant programme/activity information and knowledge to the WESTPAC website and other medias; - Build a systematic, well-organized storage of programme/activity information and documents; - Aid in planning, budgeting, and monitoring; and respond to knowledge needs and other related communications; - Contribute to the improvement and maintenance of the WESTPAC website and programme webpages; - Perform other functions as requested by the Head of the WESTPAC Office. *In line with UNESCO’s overall gender mainstreaming strategy, the consultant is expected to integrate a gender perspective in all activities and apply gender mainstreaming concepts whenever feasible.* **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **Qualifications and Skill Required** ------------------------------------- - At least three-five years of experience in knowledge management - University Degree (or equivalent experience) in the field of communication, journalism, - Advanced knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
