Eligibility criteria

Candidate age: between 18 and 29 throughout the entire duration of their assignment. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Regional Advisor, Tobacco Free Initiative (TFI), the International UN Youth Volunteer - Junior officer Tobacco Free Initiative will: - Complete, in full coordination with TFI team and in collaboration with the country focal points in both the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance, the country sheet of GTCR, through regular follow up with countries and collection of all supporting documents; - Validate the information collected with HQ and EMRO team; - Make sure that the sign-off process is completed with the relevant national authorities; follow up with WRs and focal points on the completion of the process; - Provide regional material as follows: country factsheet - country presentation for each country in coordination with TFI EMRO; - Contribute to the implementation of the TFI workplan; - Provide technical support to countries for implementing their plans; - Support Member States in the finalization of national action plans and national targets in the area of ‘NCD’ Best Buys; - Provide support to countries to adopt and implement the highest measures in the MPOWER policy; - Develop technical material to support EMR countries as required by the Unit; - Provide technical assistance for national and regional initiatives on strengthening the MPOWER and NCD Best Buys at country level; - Support other activities related to technical side of the programme; and - Support other activities related to the project’s management as requested. - Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

- Bachelor's degree in social studies.

- Highly recommended for this assignment University of Cambridge.

12 Months

- Required Experience: 1 up to 2 years of experience.

- Motivated to contribute towards peace and development and to serve others; - Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills; - Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team; - Flexible and open to learning and new experiences; - Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions; - Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded; - Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others).

  • Arabic(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
