Organizational Setting

The position is located at the FAO Representation for Georgia, based in Tbilisi. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by the FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

The Junior Food Technology Specialist shall operate under the overall guidance and responsibility of the FAO Representative in Georgia; direct supervision of the FAO Programme Coordinator and technical guidance by the Senior Food Safety Expert, and in collaboration with other international and national consultants.

Technical Focus

Provide technical support in food technology to the ENPARD IV implementing team.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Participate in the technical support provided to the National Food Agency during the implementation of the project. • Participate in the assessment of the Georgian food control system, by applying the FAO/WHO assessment tool • Collaborate to understand the status of approximation of EU legislation (i.e., all relevant laws and other legal instruments contributing to the approximation of the Georgian legislation). • Contribute to develop the assessment of SPS Official risk-based Inspection Controls • Take part in planning and implementation of field activities related to dissemination of Food Safety information to FBOs of the different selected value chains. • Support in the training to Food Business Operators (FBOs) on various topics of Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP, European Union Food Safety Legislation and other relevant international food safety systems • Support in any capacity building to NFA staff, ICC Staff and Agriculture Input Suppliers. • Participate in the development of training material related to food safety. • Perform other duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• University degree in Food Technology, Veterinary or other degree related to the job • At least two years’ experience in working with Food Business Operators • National or resident of Georgia with work permit • Working knowledge of Georgian and English. Working knowledge of Russian will be considered an asset
