**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Communication and Information Sector (CI) Duty Station: Paris Job Family: Communication and Information Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 7 to 11 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 27-JAN-2021 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- Under the responsibility of the Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, Chief of the Universal Access to Information, and Advisor for Communication and Information, the Individual Specialist will provide support in the implementation of the UNESCO’s Major Programme V Communication and Information, Main Line of Action 2: Building Knowledge Societies through ICTs, by enabling universal access to, and preservation of, information and knowledge, on the access to information for marginalized social groups, including a follow up to the International Year of Indigenous Languages and the upcoming International Decade of Indigenous Languages. The Individual Specialist will specifically undertake the following tasks: Long Description ---------------- **A. Contribute to the programme implementation and partnerships** - Contribute in planning and implementing UNESCO’s programme activities on linguistic diversity and multilingualism with a special focus on the promotion of application of the UNESCO’s Recommendation concerning the Promotion and Use of Multilingualism and Universal Access to Cyberspace (2003) including contributions to the preparation of the substantive reports, briefings, memos, letters, speeches, meeting notes, presentations and other documents; - Assist with coordination of implementation of other linguistic diversity and multilingualism related projects such as the development of the Arabic Chapter of World Atlas of Languages; - Assistance in implementing other linguistic diversity and multilingualism related projects. Long Description ---------------- **B. Provide support in implementation and coordination of communication and outreach** - Provide support of communication and outreach efforts, including by planning and developing communication materials in multiple formats for online and offline use. - Ensure maintenance of the dedicated websites, including management of enquires, preparation of email responses, mailing lists and responses, databases, preparation of announcements, news items and other tasks; - Contribute to the organization of the online social media campaigns including the International Days (18 December); - Liaise with external and internal service providers and partners as necessary. Ensure other administrative and financial tasks related to the programme implementation** - Ensure accomplishment of logistic and administrative tasks related to the organization of meetings. - Contribute to the administrative and financial tasks including office assistance, receive, register, review and draft correspondence and documents, maintain mailing lists and other contact lists, respond to queries about the UNESCO’s work in the above-mentioned areas, preparation of documentation related to the upcoming events and project documentation. **Deliverables:** - Monthly reports on progress made. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- ***Education*** - Advance university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in linguistic diversity, heritage studies or social anthropology. ***Work Experience*** - At least 2 years of experience in project planning, coordination and management, communications, events organization, and/or preparation of texts and publications (reports, briefings, speeches etc.) with preference in linguistic diversity. - Experience with UNESCO and/or the United Nations system and demonstrated understanding of their functioning and procedures will be considered an asset. - Familiarity with international cooperation mechanisms such as the organization of the international year and international days. ***Skills/Competencies*** - Excellent analytical and drafting skills; - Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and ability to exchange, develop and summarize concise information on complex issues; - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in multicultural environment with external and internal partners; - Excellent organization and planning skills, including the ability to organize own work priorities and deadlines, take ownership of assigned duties and tasks, and work independently towards their completion. Discretion and maturity of judgement are required; - Ability to work under pressure; - Solid computer skills including advanced knowledge of office software such as Word and Excel. ***Languages*** - Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written), proven expertise writing concise studies documents for international organizations in English. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- ***Education*** - Advance university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in linguistic diversity and heritage studies or relevant field. ***Work Experience*** - Familiarity with work done by UNESCO on the organization of the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages, regional language minority networks and partnerships. ***Skills/Competencies*** - Demonstrated ability to use conference equipment with computer literacy in graphic design, publication. design, multimedia products development, web design, web content, etc. ***Languages*** - Knowledge of other official languages of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish). **APPLICATION PROCESS** ----------------------- Interested candidates should complete the on-line application and complete the Employment History form (Word file).
