Org. Setting and Reporting This vacancy is to fill one position in the Security Section of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). The Incumbent will be based in Bangui and reports to Head investigator and to Chief Security Adviser (CSA) on all assigned tasks.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Investigation Assistant will responsible for the following duties:

Assists with investigations tasks and inquiries into violation of security matters, illegal activities, accidents/incidents, complaints and allegations of misconduct, discipline, etc., in which members of Mission Civilian Staff/CIVPOLs/MILOBs may be involved or implicated, and assists with the preparation of reports for the Chief Security Officer or Chief Administrative Officer, as conditions will necessarily demand.

Assists in assessing the nature of reported complaints, establishes the ingredients of the relevant offences, proofs required and prepares comprehensive written investigation reports in a timely manner consistent to such reported complaints.

Implements relevant administrative instructions, policies, rules and regulations; visits the scene of incidents/accidents and examines clues that would assist in the investigations process; in the performance of the above-mentioned duties maintains liaison as required with local police and other national authorities or other agents in the mission area who would make investigations tasks bear good results.

Performs random checks on mission vehicles as a deterrent measure for abuses.

Maintains and updates the office investigations database and other office records for ease of reference as necessary.

Functions as the Standby Duty Officer when placed on period roster to do so, conducts security survey for office premises and facilities and prepares comprehensive security information that produces background papers relating to the security threats and safety of mission staff members and property.

Performs any other assignment as required and detailed by the Chief Security Officer.

Education -High school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate is required. -Formal qualifications or certifications in investigations obtained through service with military, police, other governmental or intergovernmental agencies and organizations or private enterprise investigative firms are desirable.

Work Experience A minimum of six years of security experience within military, national or international police, security or fire brigade organization is required. Experience working in a United Nations common system field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping, political missions and UN agencies, funds, and programmes) - or similar international or non-governmental organization is desirable. One year experience and exposure at the international level is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the positions advertised, fluency in oral and written English and French is required.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
