Org. Setting and Reporting This position is situated in Environment (ENV) within the ICAO Air Transport Bureau (ATB). ICAO's activities in the environment field aim to limit or reduce the impact of international aviation on noise, local air quality, and the global climate. ENV is responsible for the development of a range of standards, policies and guidance material and provides capacity building and assistance for the implementation of mitigation measures to achieve these objectives. Measures include aircraft technology, operational improvements, the development and deployment of sustainable alternative fuels for aviation, and the use of market-based measures. In addition, ENV maintains close relations with other UN policy-making bodies that have expressed an interest in environmental aspects of civil aviation.

The primary focus of this internship is on UN coordination and outreach in relation to aviation and environment.

Responsibilities Under the supervision of Deputy Director, Environment, Chief, Climate Change and Environment Officers, the intern will:

•Support identifying, contacting and coordinating with potential speakers and attendees of the relevant ICAO events on environment; •Support the development of agenda, programme, presentations, scenarios, as well as outreach materials for the ICAO events on environment; •Support the post-event follow-up activates, including the summary of events and reporting to relevant ICAO bodies and external parties; •Assist with the development of documentation and presentations related to ICAO’s work on environment; •Assist with the provision of content for the ICAO ENV websites associated ICAO’s work on environment; •Draft replies to public enquiries related to ICAO’s work on environment; and •Perform other related duties

Education At the time of application, candidates are required to have completed or be enrolled in a graduate degree programme (second-level university degree or higher) in a field of study related to aviation, environment, aeronautical/aerospace or other engineering, climate change and/or computer science. Students who are enrolled in the final academic year of a first-level university degree (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) may exceptionally be accepted if deemed qualified for the position.

Applicants pursuing studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages should have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages Essential requirements: Fluent reading, writing and speaking abilities in English.

Desirable requirements: A working knowledge of a second language of the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice Interns are not paid. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by the intern.

The duration of the internship is between three to six months. The intern is expected to work five days a week, on a full-time basis.

Interns shall not be eligible to be engaged in any other form of employment within ICAO during the period of internship and shall not be eligible to apply for or be appointed to any post in the Secretariat or be contracted for any other remunerated employment with ICAO for the six months immediately following the end of their internship.

REMOTE INTERNSHIP (COVID-19): In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
