The role of this vacant position does not include responsibility for UNESCO's wider external communications, which is managed by the Division for Communications and Public Engagement.* Long Description ---------------- Under the authority of the Chief of Section for Media and Information Literacy and Media Development, the consultant shall: 1\. Lead on the development of an international campaign strategy to observe World Radio Day on 13 February 2023 world over; 2\. Coordinate the implementation of the international campaign strategy, including by advising on and overseeing the design of national celebration events in every Member State of UNESCO, in order to provide an integrated thematic approach of celebrations. More specifically: \* Undertake strategic planning, identifying key opportunities for World Radio Day, key campaign moments, and champions. Prepare campaigning guidelines and its results-based matrix, and offer recommendations in relation to the main campaigning theme of 2023 (Radio and Peace) Long Description ---------------- \* Work with UNESCO Field Offices and UNESCO National Commissions across the world to enhance collaboration and joint strategic campaign implementation. Advise them, our UN partners and other colleagues on the development of appropriate World Radio Day material, including timely actions to support agreed objectives, and editing documents where required. Plan audio or video conference calls, and other means for effective and intensive collaboration around the key campaign. Share good campaigning ideas, activities, and materials, and ensure that there is a unified message by UNESCO on World Radio Day \* Reach out to and engage/collaborate with other partners, broadcasting organizations and the civil society at large to celebrate World Radio Day. Handle inquiries coming from the UN family, broadcasting organizations, radio stations, non-governmental organizations, and the public \* Lead and supervise the dedicated website and implementation of social media strategy. Prepare infographics, press kit, banners, news stories, tweets, and other media elements. Oversee their production in the 6 UN official languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Spanish, and Russian) \* Make suggestions for and coordinate a World Radio Day event at UNESCO’s Headquarters, in Paris, France, to be held in English and French \* Evaluate World Radio Day 2023 in terms of attained quantitative and qualitative results world over **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Innovation (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Making quality decisions (M) Building partnerships (M) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- **Education** \* Advanced University degree in Media, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Social or Political Communication or Public Information **Work Experience** \* Track record of minimum 5 years’ experience in radio broadcasting \* Proven experience of running successful social campaigns advocating a concept or value (not a product) at international level \* Experience of coordinating networks or organizing events with or for radio stations \* Experience in combining online and offline media **Skills / Competencies** \* Sound understanding of essential principles and ethics of campaigning. Comprehensive understanding of the implications of developing campaigning strategies for implementation in many different countries. Sensitivity to different cultures and backgrounds \* Experience of developing and writing creative and motivating campaigning materials which argue a case, provide information and guidance to radio stations for achieving impact \* Capacity to manage a heavy and varied workload effectively, under time restraint and pressure, including managing competing demands, maintaining high levels of accuracy, and ensuring excellent coordination of activities across diverse units and countries **Languages** Excellent knowledge of at least one of the working languages of the Secretariat (English or French) and very good knowledge of the other language Long Description ---------------- **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- **Work Experience** Experience tracking information on communication material and activities, including data on webcasting, live streaming connections, social media channels (downloads, hits, video and audio plays, unique page views, engagement, etc.) **Skills / Competencies** \* Good judgment, political and general, to assess the most effective means of communicating information for the purpose of achieving World Radio Day goals \* A keen understanding of the challenges of communication in developing countries, resource restraints, and other unique circumstances – including opportunities **Languages** \* A good knowledge of a third UN language is an asset (Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, and/or Russian) **ASSESSMENT** -------------- Only applications providing the information requested in the application procedure will be considered.
