How can you make a difference?

The Education Programme is a component of the Country Programme (or UNDAF). The Education Officer reports to the Chief Field Office who is at Level 3.

Under the supervision of the CFO, and the education technical leadership of the Education section in Yangon, the Education Officer based in Hakha, Chin, provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for education programmes/projects in Chin and Sagaing within the Country Programme from development planning to delivery of results, preparing, executing, managing and implementing a variety of technical and administrative programme tasks to facilitate programme development, implementation, programme progress monitoring, evaluating and reporting.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

The position is to:

  • Support to programme development and planning
  • Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results
  • Technical and operational support to programme implementation

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree in one of the following fields is required: education, psychology, sociology or another relevant technical field.
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in programme planning, management, and/or research in education is required.
  • Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Experience in education in emergencies is required.
  • Familiarity of the education cluster (previously known as education in emergency sector) is an asset.
  • Experience in managing partnerships and collaboration with CSOs, especially capacity building work, is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
  • Familiarity with the local context in Chin and Sagaing, and working experience in those areas (or either of the two) within the last 2 years, is a strong asset.
  • Experience in education situation monitoring to inform programming is an asset.
  • Experience in advocacy for education and communication including preparation of stories, is an asset.
  • Experience in developing and implementing innovations to support education (can include, but not limited to technology).
  • Experience in supply and logistics, including distribution of education supplies and end user monitoring, is an asset.
