Note: UNICEF Nutrition, NYHQ is currently undergoing organizational changes. Therefore, the exact location of the post has yet to be determined. Selected candidates may be required to commence duties remotely until the location is confirmed. Under the guidance of UNICEF’s Director of Nutrition programmes, you will lead the programme area on Knowledge, Advocacy and Partnerships which aims to strengthen the enabling environment for maternal and child nutrition through improved knowledge, advocacy, partnerships, and financing at global, regional and country levels.

In doing so, you will contribute to further establishing UNICEF as a thought and knowledge leader on policy and programming for maternal and child nutrition and contribute to the vision, goals, and objectives of the UNICEF Nutrition Strategy 2020-2030.

As this programme area is cross-cutting, you will work closely with other programme areas in the Nutrition Section to provide strategic coordination and support for the knowledge, advocacy, and partnerships functions. You will also collaborate with other sections in the Programme Group and other divisions at headquarters.

You will also work closely with Regional Nutrition Advisers and Chiefs of Nutrition in Country Offices. Outside the organization, you will collaborate with UNICEF’s partners and donors as appropriate. The position requires frequent travel.

You will be accountable to the Director, Nutrition Programmes to strengthen the enabling environment for maternal and child nutrition through improved knowledge, advocacy, and partnerships.

How can you make a difference?

  1. Strategic knowledge and evidence
  • Lead knowledge generation and management in support to the roll-out of the UNICEF’s Nutrition Strategy 2020-2030.
  • Ensure that knowledge and evidence products developed by UNICEF Nutrition Programme meet highest quality standards.
  1. Strategic advocacy and communication
  • Lead strategic advocacy and communication in support to the roll-out of the UNICEF’s Nutrition Strategy 2020-2030.
  • Represent UNICEF in key global fora to advance UNICEF’s advocacy priorities for maternal and child nutrition 2020-2030.
  1. Strategic partnerships and resource mobilization
  • Lead or support as appropriate the development of strategic partnerships for maternal and child nutrition with donors, partners and relevant UNICEF stakeholders.
  • Lead or support as appropriate mobilization of financial resources to support the roll-out of the UNICEF’s Nutrition Strategy 2020-2030.
  1. Technical support to regional and country offices
  • Support Regional Offices with timely and quality inputs in terms of strategic direction, knowledge and evidence, advocacy and communication, and partnerships and resources.
  • As part of the HQ-RO Global Technical Team for Nutrition, provide timely and quality support to UNICEF Country Offices on knowledge, advocacy and partnerships.
  1. Strategic management (human and financial resources):
  • Strategic management of human and financial resources in the programme unit Knowledge, Advocacy and Partnerships in line with UNICEF values and policies.
  • Lead coordination across UNICEF Nutrition Programme in HQ – in support to Director and Unit Heads, and with Regional Nutrition Advisors as a Global Technical Team.

To qualify as a champion for every child, the candidate must have…

  • Advanced university degree in the fields of Public Health Nutrition, Maternal and Child Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Nutritional Epidemiology, or Human Nutrition.
  • At least 10 years or relevant professional experience of which at least 8 on maternal and child nutrition in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Proven experience in leadership and management
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
