Contract

This is a DRC - National contract. More about DRC - National contracts.

Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations, is currently looking for a new intern to support us in our journey to strengthen Diversity & Inclusion across all our operations.

****Who are we?****

The People Development & Engagement Team, which forms part of the global HR Department, works towards an organization in which staff are motivated, feel included and have the necessary skills to do their jobs – thereby enabling us to better assist and protect more people in need. We do this by providing staff, managers, and HR teams across our operations with policies, processes and tools that have a visible impact on staff development and engagement. The team consists of 7 employees.

****About the job****

DRC commits to the Organizational Principle “Include” for 2025 (50% gender balance and 50%+ national staff in management roles). This is led by DRC’s Diversity & Inclusion Specialist who develops and implements initiatives related to attraction, development & retention of underrepresented groups. You will work closely together with our Diversity and Inclusion specialist in designing your own project to contribute to DRC’s diversity and inclusion agenda.

More specifically, we would love to have your support on one of the following projects:

  • Design, manage and implement a project to strengthen diversity and inclusion in DRC in one of the following areas outlined below. The exact focus of the internship project will be determined in dialogue based on your individual background and interests.
    • Inclusive communication: Develop and support the roll out of tools and resources on inclusive communication, including a guidance document that brings together best practices from various fields (e.g., anti-racism, disability inclusion, gender equality). The guidance aims to strengthen understanding of how to use words and images to communicate inclusively, not only in written outputs such as reports and brochures, but also in presentations and other forms of internal and external communication.
    • Mentoring framework: Support with developing and rolling out a mentoring framework in DRC that can be adapted and implemented by DRC’s local offices. The purpose of the mentoring framework is to strengthen and further expand a diverse talent pipeline, targeting specifically underrepresented groups at DRC and to promote an overall coaching and mentoring culture as part of an enabling and inclusive work environment.
  • Support the People Development and Engagement team in the development of learning material related to diversity, equity and inclusion that can be localized and further applied by DRC’s country operations.

****About you****

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a great interest in understanding the opportunities and obstacles related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion that may emerge in large multinational organizations, especially when headquartered in the Global North - but primarily working in the Global South.

All employees should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity.

****Your qualifications****

Your field of study is not paramount, but it will most likely be within the social sciences, organization studies or human resources and/or international affairs. To apply for the internship, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have an interest in D&I and the humanitarian sector
  • Have completed a minimum of two years of higher education
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English

It is a requirement that you are enrolled in a university in order to be considered for the internship.
