Org. Setting and Reporting The Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) was established by Security Council resolution 1373 (2001), which was adopted unanimously on 28 September 2001 in the wake of the 11 September terrorist attacks in the United States

The Committee, comprising all 15 Security Council members, was tasked with monitoring implementation of resolution 1373 (2001), which requested countries to implement a number of measures intended to enhance their legal and institutional ability to counter terrorist activities at home, in their regions and around the world.

Under resolution 1535 (2004), the Security Council established the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) to assist the work of the CTC and coordinate the process of monitoring the implementation of resolution 1373 (2001).

Ms. Coninsx was sworn in on 6 December 2017 as Assistant-Secretary General and Executive Director of CTED. The Executive Director is supported by the Office of the Executive Director (OED).

CTED comprises some 40 staff members, about half of whom are legal experts who analyze the reports submitted by States in areas such as legislative drafting, the financing of terrorism, border and customs controls, police and law enforcement, refugee and migration law, arms trafficking and maritime and transportation security.

CTED is divided into two sections: an Assessment and Technical Assistance Office (ATAO), which is further divided into three geographical clusters to enable the experts to specialize in particular regions of the world, and an Administrative and Information Office (AIO).

CTED internships are for three months with the opportunity for extension up to six months, pending on the needs of the Executive Directorate, and availability of the candidate.

CTED Social Media Intern will be part of the Office of the Executive Director.

Interns work five days a week under the supervision of a staff member in the Office to which they are assigned. CTED needs an intern to start as soon as possible.

Responsibilities Under the supervision and guidance of the Special Assistant of the Assistant-Secretary-General, Executive Director of CTED, the Social Media Intern may be responsible for the following duties:

•Assisting the Special Assistant with the daily social media outreach and engagement on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram related to activities of the Executive Director; •Researching content and drafting messages for the @UN_CTED social media channels; •Editing and subtitling videos for CTED social media channels, using dedicated software (Adobe Premiere Pro); create visuals, quote cards, GIFs and other materials as requested using online tools (such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop); •Assisting in developing long-term content on CTED activities/mandate to increase awareness and understanding, including through medium; •Assisting in the production of Instagram Stories; •Attending CTED events, CTC open briefings and other events with CTED participation to gather quotes and take photos and videos which can be used in social media posts; •Taking photographs or make short videos of CTED’s participation in events; •Drafting posts for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as requested; •Researching trends and interesting posts from partners and suggest retweets/regrams; monitor the social media accounts for followers' comments and questions, and flag them to the Public Information officer and Special Assistant as needed; •Taking an active role in the live coverage of events; •Drafting monthly statistics reports reflecting performance of the @UN_CTED social media accounts, and fill in monthly reporting forms •Contributing to the CTED’s monthly newsletter; •Supporting external presentations; •Creating social content for the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Security Council resolution 1373 (2001); •Proactively contributing suggestions and ideas that will add value to CTED digital communications; •Taking on other special projects as assigned.

Required: Knowledge of visual communication; knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat. Familiarity with the work of the UN or similar international organization is desirable. Familiarity with social media approaches is desirable; experience in web development (Drupal or similar CMS platforms), animation and video editing is desirable; experience working with multilingual products is desirable.

On completion of the internship, the successful candidate will have gained: •An excellent understanding of the Counter-Terrorism Committee, and its Executive Directorate, including its structure, and mandate; •Valuable experience in social media; •Design and writing skills for public information and communications in an international context.

Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in the areas of journalism, communications, digital media, or marketing or related fields. Students of international relations or related fields may also be considered for this internship; (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

In addition: •Be computer literate in standard software applications; •Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and· •Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. •Applicants must be at least 18 years old. •Applicants are encouraged to list all relevant work experiences in their application, as well as interests, skills and knowledge in the areas indicated in the job opening

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship.

Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
