Org. Setting and Reporting The Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) was established by Security Council resolution 1373 (2001), which was adopted unanimously on 28 September 2001 in the wake of the 11 September terrorist attacks in the United States

The Committee, comprising all 15 Security Council members, was tasked with monitoring implementation of resolution 1373 (2001), which requested countries to implement a number of measures intended to enhance their legal and institutional ability to counter terrorist activities at home, in their regions and around the world.

Under resolution 1535 (2004), the Security Council established the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) to assist the work of the CTC and coordinate the process of monitoring the implementation of resolution 1373 (2001).

The Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) internships are for three months with the opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the Executive Directorate.

The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a professional staff member to whom they are assigned.

Responsibilities Under the direct supervision and guidance of CTED’s Public Information Officer, the Graphic Design/Data Visualization intern may be responsible for the following duties:

  • Create graphically engaging presentations, data visualizations, infographics, and materials for the Global Implementation Survey;
  • Create the print and digital layout for the Global Implementation Survey;
  • Present visual concepts and ideas in a compelling and attractive manner;
  • Research, identify, and test tools and resources to support analysis of various data sources;
  • Collect and analyze data and information;
  • Generate infographics to support decision makers in understanding workflows;
  • Participate in information management discussions and the design of sustainable visualization solutions including templates
  • Liaise with relevant in-house and external partners as necessary or requested by the Unit;
  • Create branding material and engaging visual products for social media, public outreach campaigns, publications, conferences, events and meetings, in accordance with UN design standards and policies on schedule and delivered in a timely manner;
  • Other activities and special projects as assigned.

Required: -Knowledge of visual communication, brand identity design, website and graphic design, and ability to develop creative solutions and produce high quality graphic material; -Knowledge of industry standards in design, production, printing and multimedia processes and procedures as well as typography, layout, photography and color theory; -Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Animation and Acrobat; -Experience in conceptualizing digital products such as reports, data visualizations, animations and interactive content -Experience in web development (Drupal or similar CMS platforms) is desirable

Education Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in the areas of ; graphic design, visual art, instructional design, contents design, or communication design (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); - Be computer literate in standard software applications and proficient in Adobe Creative Suite products (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Animation and InDesign); experience with Adobe Captivate is desirable. - Be proficient with data visualization tools and applications; - Assist with data visualization through graphs and maps; - Be proficient with Excel applications; - Have knowledge of multimedia or web design and interactive media (web development, including hands-on knowledge of HTML/CSS, databases, webpages, scripting, programming, digital imaging, multimedia design, etc.);

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages Fluency in English a must. Fluency in French, another working language of the United Nations (both oral and written) is considered an advantage. Knowledge of another language is desirable.

Due to COVID-19, the internship will be conducted on a remote basis. This is a full time internship to start as soon as possible.
