Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Information Centers (UNICs) belong to the Information Centres Services (ICS), Strategic Communications Division (SCD) of the Department of Global Communication (DGC). The UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located. They are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of, and supports the aims and activities of, the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries.

This internship is located in the United Nations Information Centre in New Delhi, India.

The internship is UNPAID. UN interns work full-time, five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities 1.The intern will support UNIC staff in implementing UN campaigns and events for the duration of the internship. Some of the ongoing key campaigns of the UN are: •Climate Change •Peacekeeping 2.Support the UNIC team in generating content for the website and social media platforms. 3.Conduct research and background work for events and campaigns 4.Provide organizing and logistical support for events. 5.Assist the UNIC/UNRC joint communication team with events and campaigns. 6.Other daily responsibilities based on the needs and the individual’s background.

Competencies COMMUNICATION: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; tailors language, tone, style and format to match audience; demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.

CLIENT ORIENTATION: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients ” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view; Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect; Identifies clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions; Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems; Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects; Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

TEAMWORK: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; solicits input by genuinely valuing others' ideas and expertise; is willing to learn from others; places team agenda before personal agenda; supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position; shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings.

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet each of the following requirements:

a.He/she should have completed graduation; b.Be computer literate in standard software application; c.Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and d.Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.. However, applicants are encouraged to list all relevant work experience such as experience in managing, planning and designing communications materials, websites and content.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN Language or an Asian language is desirable.
