Org. Setting and Reporting The Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division (MPFD) Internship is for minimum of three months, with a possibility of extension up to six months, if required by the Division.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Division or Section to which they are assigned.

Interns will gain first-hand experience with regard to the United Nations ESCAP activities in the area of strategic communications, digital outreach and public information. They will also gain a greater understanding of how the ESCAP works and its range of activities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Responsibilities The internship is centred on assisting ESCAP Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division in dissemination of the flagship publication “Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific Survey", and other publications and events of the Division, including developing a strategic communication plan and implementing digital outreach to raise the impact of the Division's publications and events. The following responsibilities can be adapted, as appropriate, to fit each intern.

  • Assist in drafting and editing content for public information materials, including press releases, newsletter articles, blogs and social media;
  • Assist in producing social media plans and campaigns, as well as explore more potential digital outreach initiatives to raise online visibility of the publications and events;
  • Produce various multimedia materials for online and offline products, including infographics, motion graphics, short videos, publication covers, presentation templates and event flyers;
  • Prepare professional PPT decks that we can use to further promote our work, projects, and activities;
  • Assist in video production including shooting and editing videos, mixing sound and animating slideshows, if required;
  • Assist in the organization and execution of the launch of the Survey and other publications and events;
  • Provide background research for public information materials;
  • Support the development of funding proposals and donor scoping for potential projects;
  • Initiate and carry out assigned tasks/special projects.

Education Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Studio and Canva is desirable.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Familiarity with the current world events is desirable.

Knowledge in social media tools, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube is desirable.

Ability to write text for marketing and promotional materials is desirable.

An interest in planning and executing advocacy campaigns is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
