Org. Setting and Reporting The post is located at the Office of the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) in the SDG Lab. The internship will start by the end of April 2022. The SDG Lab is a multi-stakeholder initiative that contributes to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by supporting Geneva-based actors in further leveraging expertise and knowledge into policy, practice and action. The Lab works with a diverse ecosystem of actors that are focused on delivering the 2030 Agenda and identifies strategic opportunities for convergence in order to energize and maximize the added-value of International Geneva in supporting implementation of the SDGs, including but not limited to United Nations & Intergovernmental Organizations, Member States, Civil Society and NGOs, Academia and the Private Sector. The Lab contributes to Geneva "walking the talk" when it comes to delivering the SDGs. It creates space for interdisciplinary and multi-sectoral collaboration while consistently testing assumptions and asking questions about what is needed to achieve the 2030 Agenda. This dynamic Lab model strengthens the individual efforts of governments and organizations by amplifying their unique voices, creating space for new partnerships to form, and providing a platform to innovate and experiment. It supports the collective knowledge and expertise within Geneva, making it increasingly relevant and actionable for national and local level SDG implementation.

The internship is UNPAID and fulltime.

Interns work five (5) days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of the Officer in charge of internship.

Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Senior Advisor – Communications of the SDG Lab in the Office of the Director General, the intern will:

- Support team members with data management from primary or secondary sources and maintaining databases/data systems; - Contribute to the search for approaches and methods that will lead to innovative data management solutions; - Provide technical support for existing reports, dashboards, or other data tools; - Help identify and analyse errors and inconsistencies in data collection and propose resolutions; - Support the development of SDG Lab communications products and activities (e.g. website, web content creation, social media, presentations, visual materials, etc.); - Assist in supporting SDG Lab outreach activities such as preparing event documentation and materials, taking photographs and helping with event set up and tear down. - Support meeting coverage by attending key meetings (e.g. bilaterals and events) related to the SDG Lab including note-taking and recording action items for follow up; - Other duties as required and determined by the SDG Lab team.

Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). To qualify for an internship with the United Nations, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).

In addition, interested candidates must: - Be computer literate in standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point); - Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and, - Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

The ability to analyze and use data to advance decisions, strategies, and execution is desirable.

Knowledge of web-based content management systems and databases is desirable.

Understanding of coding languages and their applications (C++, XML, SQL, Python) is an advantage.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of any of the other UN official languages would be an advantage.
