Job description

Social protection is a key instrument for achieving the German government's goals in poverty reduction, social (health) protection, climate adaptation and strengthening resilience in partner countries of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The Global Initiative Social Protection Innovation Learning, commissioned by the BMZ, serves as a vehicle for bringing together partner countries and international development partners within the framework of various cooperation formats and facilitating joint innovation and global learning. Two thematic fields are currently envisaged: a) digital management information systems for social protection (especially openIMIS) and b) approaches for crisis-proof and adaptable social protection systems (ASP). The internship is offered in the context of the openIMIS initiative run by GIZ with a special focus on the software development process. The intern will get insights into core processes of a global open source software project. Beyond that, the integration into the team structure and the corporate communication systems of GIZ offers a genuine view into the work of international development cooperation.

Your tasks

During your internship you will support the following tasks:

  • Support the co-ordination desk in the management of the various communication channels of the openIMIS Initiative.
  • Support the openIMIS developers committee in core software development processes with a specific eye on quality assurance.
  • Support the openIMIS Initiative in harvesting structured technical documentation from the various sources such as the openIMIS Wiki.
  • Support in preparation, implementation and follow-up of (virtual) events including minutes taking, support of capacity development measures
  • Contributing to the overall project management, monitoring, quality assurance and evaluation.

Your profile

  • You are studying in the third semester or higher in the field of informatics with an optional specialisation in health or social protection. Other curricula will also be considered in combination with explicit software development experiences.
  • Demonstrated interest in the use and promotion of open-source software and technologies.
  • Affinity for digital tools of virtual collaboration, knowledge in conception and implementation of digital campaigns advantageous.
  • Experience with the openIMIS software development frameworks advantageous
  • Experience in networking/community and event management advantageous (on/offline)
  • Efficient and well-structured way of working, high level of comprehension, commitment, team spirit, initiative and creativity
  • Very good knowledge of the common MS Office applications
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken German and English (English is the team language), knowledge of French would be an advantage

We pay a monthly stipend of €1.689,- (gross).
