Org. Setting and Reporting This remote internship position is located in the French Translation Service, Documentation Division, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in New York. The internship is for (2) months.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Chief of the Translation Section/Service or the internship supervisor, as appropriate. Candidates are encouraged to highlight their specific skills and/or experience in their application. They are asked to do so carefully in order to enhance the value of the internship for both themselves and the receiving Section/Service.

Responsibilities Interns will be responsible for the following duties: (a) translating into French, which must be the candidates' main language, documents from one or more of the other official languages of the United Nations for training and other purposes and subject to review. The official languages are: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish; (b) performing other related duties as required, including editing, terminological work, creation of translation memories.

Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

1.Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent)

2.The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship you are applying for.

3. Proficiency in standard word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or similar.

4.Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter.

5.Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages Complete mastery of the candidate’s main language, French (the language of the Section/Service in which the internship will be spent), and a good knowledge of English. Knowledge of a third official language would be an asset. The official languages of the United Nations are: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

Assessment Candidates will be assessed based on their Candidate Profile. Individual interviews and/or tests may be conducted for further assessment.

REMOTE INTERNSHIPS (COVID-19)

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. For this remote internship, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of health insurance coverage.

United Nations Considerations According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity. Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
