Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

The Geneva Environment Network Secretariat is a cooperative partnership of over 75 environment and sustainable development organizations based in the International Environment House and elsewhere in the Geneva area, including United Nations offices and programmes, local authorities and non-governmental organizations. Set up in 1999, with the support of the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment, the GEN secretariat, led by UN Environment Europe Office, actively promotes increased cooperation and networking between its members. The GEN Secretariat aims to promote access to the information resources of its members and outreach to the general public and to selected target groups. A common resource centre is located on the ground floor of the International Environment House.

The internship is to take place in the GEN Secretariat for 6 months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Geneva Environment Network (GEN), the intern will:

- Assist in launching and developing projects concerning Environmental Information and Public Awareness, by helping to organize outreach seminars and gathering of information and materials; - Assist the team in organizing meetings by over-seeing logistics, preparing invitations, preparing lists of participants; - Assisting in management of the GEN social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedeIn; - Assist with calendar of events and update of the website; - Assist the secretariat with day-to-day tasks, as required for the implementation of the work programme;

Client Orientation: -Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients ” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view -Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect -Identifies clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions -Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems -Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects -Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Be computer literate in standard software applications;

Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

Have a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred area of studies: Political Science, International relations, Environment Science, Communications;.

Work Experience Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. French is desirable.
