Org. Setting and Reporting The Environment and Development Division, Environment and Development Policy Section internship is for at least two months with an opportunity for extension with an additional four months, for a total duration not to exceed six months, if required by the division.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office to which they are assigned.

Given the nature of this home-based internship, work hours can be arranged with the supervisor to accommodate time zone differences.

Environment and Development Policy Section plays a leading role in facilitating the analysis, development, promotion and dissemination of innovative policies in the field of environment and development. With a focus on 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals, and the need to improve the capacity of policymakers in the region to development implementation strategies in an integrated manner.

Responsibilities To support and strengthen stakeholder engagement related to implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development:

•Support in the organization of the 4th Asia-Pacific Day for the ocean •Conducting outreach in the context of stakeholder engagement, in particular though activities in the implementation of projects and initiatives •Undertake research on the sustainability of the ocean and climate change, and related practices in Asia and the Pacific, including through innovative methods of information collection and outreach, and support in the production of knowledge products for sharing with member states and other stakeholders; •Support the development of powerpoints, inputs for reports and summaries, notetaking and transcripts •Support in the Ddvelopment of materials and content for social media, primarily on content related to SDG13 and SDG14. •Other duties, as required.

•Communication: Ability to draft clearly and concisely, good written and oral language skills. •Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different national and cultural backgrounds to achieve organizational goals. •Client Orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be ‘clients’ and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view.

Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must met one of the following requirements:

a)be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or b)be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or c)have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
