Org. Setting and Reporting The internship position is in the Accessibility Center of the Meetings Support Section, which forms part of the Meetings and Publishing Division of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management. The internship is for a period of three months with the possibility of extension, subject to the needs of the unit. The internship is unpaid and full time. Work can be performed on site and remotely in New York, dependent on agreement with the supervisor.

Responsibilities Within the delegated authority, the intern will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide assistance in support of the day-to-day operations of the Accessibility Centre.
  • Conduct surveys and research into the awareness of the Centre, and to obtain feedback on the services and support provided to delegates.
  • Assist with drafting of accessibility guidelines relevant to conducting accessible conferences and events.
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic reports on accessibility implementation for conferences and meetings.
  • Assist with maintaining an inventory of the devices in the Centre.
  • Assist with awareness training and disability inclusion.
  • Assist with updating of Standard Operating Procedures and guidelines covering the operations and work of the Centre.
  • Help with conducting consultations with persons with disabilities and organizations of persons with disabilities.
  • Respond to queries from delegates and Secretariat officials, including assisting with walk-throughs of the meeting rooms related to accessibility and facilitation of contacts to ensure accessibility of meetings and events.

Client Orientation:-Considers all those to whom services are provided to be "clients " and seeks to see things from clients' point of view- Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect-Identifies clients' needs and matches them to appropriate solutions-Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems-Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects-Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Education At the time of application, candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent)

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internships. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.

REMOTE INTERNSHIPS (COVID-19)

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.

Applicants must have full access to a computer with a modern browser in which to run the latest version of Office 365 applications.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. For this remote internship, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of health insurance coverage.
