Org. Setting and Reporting UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance. UNRWA is the largest UN operation in the Middle East with more than 30,000 staff. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.

The purpose of the communications internship is that the HQ (Amman) Department of Education is looking for a qualified intern, who can support with the coordination, follow-up, and communication of different Education initiatives and day-to-day operations.

The Communications Advisor provides general support and guidance to ensure the attainment of set objectives and the implementation of requested tasks, and integration with the overall communications objectives and plans of the Education Department.

Responsibilities 1. Supports the implementation of Education communication plans and activities; 2. Assists in developing and improving communication tools to promote UNRWA’s Education Programme; 3. Contributes to improving the communication and visibility of the Education Department internally and externally; 4. Helps in preparing, reviewing, and updating Education communication materials, including factsheets, videos, posters, newsletters, and other communication materials; 5. Assists in implementing education campaigns and events; 6. Assists in updating the content of the UNRWA Education SharePoint and website;

Competencies Computer skills, knowledge of social media platforms. Based at the duty station (Amman, Jordan).

Education Either enrolled in university or have completed a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages Excellent command of written and spoken English. Arabic is an asset;

Special Notice Location: UNRWA, HQ Amman - Jordan

DURATION: The internship period will be 6 months. Extension of this period is subject to the performance evaluation and the continuity of the needed functions.

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNRWA. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
