Org. Setting and Reporting The TRADE, INVESTMENT AND INNOVATION DIVISION is looking for a communications intern who will support the work of Technology and Innovation Section for three (3) to six (6) months, pending on the needs of the department. The communications intern will provide support to two specific areas of work: science, technology and innovation (STI) and inclusive business (IB).

See below for details: - Inclusive business provide triple wins. They provide market opportunities to enterprises; they provide above market-rate income opportunities and access to affordable essential goods and services for low income and marginalised groups; and they help governments deliver affordable goods and services and lift people out of poverty at scale. This movement will be supported by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), who in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, have recently launched the “Regional Inclusive Business Models in Agriculture and Food Systems” initiative with the aim to accelerate the adoption of and promote innovative business models that support inclusive agricultural transformation in India, Viet Nam and a third country to be determined.

  • Science, technology and innovation (STI) is new mandate for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. This new work stream will support member States to effectively harness science, technology and innovation to meet the ambitions of the Sustainable Development Goals.

For both areas of work, the main objectives of communications is to support and improve fundriaising processes, create work visibility amongst key stakeholders and for reporting purposes.

The communications internship position offers an opportunity to apply technical and practical knowledge of communications in the context of the United Nations. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities The candidate is expected to undertake the following activities: Programme website 1. Draft website content and maintain as needed

Social media 1. Draft social media strategy 2. Maintain social media platforms active 3. Review current materials including notes and videos 4. Develop regular social media posts 5. Research and identify key hashtags and handles

Communications Strategy 1. Support team develop key communications messages 2. Support team create communications partnerships with key partners 3. Support team develop a pitch 4. Support and maintain a communications monitoring system

Communications Materials 1. Research and literature reviews in relevant topics and support the drafting of blogs 2. Develop specific communications materials and content for printed material (2 pagers, overviews, etc)

Fundraising 1. Develop and maintain a fundraising data base

General administration and operation 1. Support and facilitate the organization of online and in person workshops, forums, webinars, and meetings.

Technological awareness: Keeps abreast of available technology. Understands applicability and limitations of technology to the work of the office. Actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks. Shows willingness to learn new technology.

Education The applicants to the programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.

Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
