Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Digital Support Unit of the Digital and Promotion Branch, in the News and Media Division of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The Unit is responsible for designing, implementing and managing the web and digital processes of the Department, in line with its overall communications guidance, priorities and messaging and as guided by administrative policies on the institutional use of web and social media. The selected candidate will be reporting to the Digital Support Unit Chief in New York.

Please be advised that the position is available starting as soon as possible until six (6) months with a possibility of extension.

The appointment or assignment and renewal thereof are subject to the availability of the post or funds, budgetary approval or extension of the mandate.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, and under supervision of the Digital Support Unit in New York, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

- Provides specialized assistance in the production and delivery of information communications products and services. - Provide front-line support and training to content contributors in New York and New Delhi, on UN News and other assigned DGC web properties, on staggered work hours as necessary. - Undertake quality assurance testing, including pre-release and post-release testing of changes to UN News and other platforms and conduct periodic integrity checks. Propose strategies and techniques to improve SEO performance. - Serves as team member in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and support of computer application systems; independently liaises with users to define and specify requirements. - Assists in the production and editing of website projects: researches diverse print and digital information sources for topics and materials for projects; suggests ideas on content, narration texts, audio excerpts, design elements, etc.; selects and catalogues sound/ visual materials and evaluates quality for inclusion in productions and obtains requisite clearances and copyrights. - Handles administrative coordination in support of special training and other programmes. - Provide orientation and training to other staff and users in client offices on the use of established CMS platforms and digital tools. - Manages updates and further develops internal databases; update website; generates a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases. - Configure website and service usage analytics reports and analyze traffic to evaluate effectiveness of content and features. - Prepares technical and user documentation for deployed computer application systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations. - Provides support for deployed computer application systems including version management, data recovery; performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to users requests. - Drafts correspondence and communications, including work plan revisions and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports. - Serves as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of computer application systems development projects, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units to initiate requests; prepares standard terms of reference; processes and follows-up on administrative actions and resolves issues related to project implementation, e.g. organization of and participation in training, procurement of equipment and services, etc. - Keeps abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions. - Provides guidance to new/junior staff. - Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of various types and levels of software testing. Knowledge of software development life-cycle and quality assurance activities. Knowledge of system development workflow and document flow processes, ability to conduct research and gather information from a wide variety of standard and non-standard sources. Education High school diploma or equivalent. Must have passed the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) or the Global General Service Test (GGST) at Headquarters or an equivalent locally-administered test at Offices Away.

Work Experience A minimum of 7 years experience in public communication, international broadcasting or related area. Experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required. Experience maintaining, configuring and/or site building with Drupal is required. Experience providing technical assistance and support for at least one year is desirable. Experience with digital multimedia editing tools is desirable. Knowledge of fundamental web technologies and standards including HTML and CSS is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Hindi or another UN official language is an advantage.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat.
