Result of Service The purpose of the assignment is to support the ongoing development of the UN Toolkit on Synthetic Drugs as well as the implementation and outreach of the UNODC Synthetic Drug Strategy (including Opioid Strategy) portfolio.

Expected duration 96 days

Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer and the Associate Drug Control and Crime Prevention Officer, the contractor will perform the following tasks:

  • Provide substantive support to LSS and other meetings, conferences, workshops etc. such as proposing agenda items, identifying and coordinating with participants, preparing documents and presentations, and conducting outreach and dissemination activities (including designing invitations and flyers).
  • Support the maintenance and development of content for online platforms and applications, websites and databases (UN Toolkit on Synthetic Drugs, Synthetic Drug Strategy website, Opioid Strategy website).
  • Research the latest information on resources and tools related to responses to synthetic drugs and update online platforms accordingly.
  • Support the development and implementation of capacity building activities to promote the use of the Toolkit such as workshops, webinars and technical presentations
  • Draft and publish online content to support outreach and dissemination activities related to the UNODC Opioid Strategy/ Synthetic Drug Strategy and develop infographics and other materials to visually demonstrate results and impact.
  • Monitor and track online platform analytics and present findings for reporting and development purposes.
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports and various implementation update materials.
  • Prepare various types of written output such as background papers, analyses, reports, input for publications, briefing notes and promotional materials.
  • Assist in developing funding proposals, concept notes and implementation related reports.
  • Conduct background research for use in preparation of reports, briefs, speeches, presentation decks, infographics etc.
  • Support the outreach and dissemination of various products tools and services.

    Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: High-school diploma is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree) in social science, development studies, communications, public health, international relations, public administration, or a related field is desirable. Experience: A minimum of 2 years’ work experience in the field of communications with strong organizational and administrative skills are required. Sound communication skills and the ability to work in a team collaborating with colleagues of different cultural backgrounds are required. Experience in the use of content management systems as well as contributing to the development of various software applications is desirable. Experience working in an international organization is desirable. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English, with excellent drafting and communications skills, is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
