How can you make a difference?

The Child Protection Section, UNICEF Thailand Country Office (TCO) is seeking an individual contractor to contribute to UNICEF’s effort to strengthen the child protection system in school and support the child protection section to implement some immediate projects, including global UNICEF research, as well as to assist the section, in close collaboration with other sections, to build its approach to the child online protection and child protection in schools.

Work Assignment:

Under general guidance of Child Protection Officer (Justice), the individual contractor is accountable for the following tasks:

  • Conduct desk review and provide technical support on programme planning and development.
  • Support development of partnerships and coordination with government, NGOs, private sector, and/or academic institutions in the thematic areas.
  • Support in monitoring and provide and solicit technical inputs into the implementation of child protection projects activities on the protection of children online, including providing support for research projects. Provide technical support as an expert from UNICEF and represent in inter-agency and private sector meetings on online protection. Provides technical support for policy advocacy on related issues. The support includes the provision of inputs on the national survey questionnaire, liaise with key stakeholders, and organization of consultation at national level.
  • Develop guidance note/protocol/policy brief on issues concerning child online protection and protecting children in school.
  • Ensure relevant reports and programme documents concerning child protection online and protecting children in school in Thailand are the latest. Provide comprehensive analysis on issues affecting children with recommendations and milestones contributing to programme management and planning.
  • Identify, capture, document, synthesize and share lessons learned for knowledge development.

End Product(s):

  • Progress report at the end of every month: Progress reports should include reference to overall progress in implementation of UNICEF-supported activities vis-à-vis the plan, constraints and challenges, recommended actions by UNICEF to ensure achievement of desired results. The report will also highlight emerging areas requiring policy and technical support and progress in networking with partners and expansion of alliances on the related issues.
  • Establishment of information and document database on the child protection online theme.
  • The issue guidance/research papers/policy briefs on child online protection and protecting children in school.
  • Final report at the end of contract.

Estimated Duration of Contract: 11 May 2021 – 25 April 2022 (11.5 months).

Official Travel: Official travel both domestic and international may require upon necessity in discussion and agreement with contract’s supervisor.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • University Degree in law, social work, social science, public administration, or related field.
  • Robust Knowledge and understanding of child protection concepts, issues, and approaches, especially how those would be applied in online and school settings. Understanding and ability to analyze child protection issues, including on strengthening of systems.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in professional work of related field.
  • Adaptability and flexibility, knowledge of ethical approaches to working on sensitive issues and vulnerable children.
  • Experience with and ability to conduct and oversee research.
  • High fluency in written and verbal Thai and English required. Must have strong English writing skills.
  • Computer and MSOffice literate.
  • Familiarity in working with UN or Non-profit organization, a plus.
  • Thai Nationality.

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
