Expected duration It should be noted that this consultancy is to be filled on a part-time basis for 110 days during a period of eleven (11) months.

Duties and Responsibilities THE ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING

ICAO States Today is a publication that has been released since 2015 on three occasions, including A/39 and A/40. It is a collection of profiles from Member States which highlights aviation and country facts of every ICAO Member State. The publication offers a free complementary basic (one-page) profile for each Member State of ICAO and provides additional opportunities, proven successful in previous edition releases. The publication includes paid State Profiles in addition to advertisement placement for industry partners. In 2022, new digital promotions will be included through channels such as ICAO TV and UnitingAviation.com. The Business Development Unit (BDU) within RPM is a driver for revenue generation for the Organization. Business development and sales of products and services that generate revenue for ICAO are the most important aspects of this Unit. These products, services and related activities coordinated within the Unit consist of, but are not limited to: events, partnerships and licensing of ICAO Intellectual Properties (IP); advertising sales, both digital and print; training activities, as well as databases and statistical products. The ICAO States Today Publication Editor will report to the Head of the BDU Unit and under the Head’s guidance will work with the Project Lead from the BDU team to coordinate the ICAO States Today Publication project within ICAO.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Function 1 (incl. expected results) Edits the ICAO States Today publication, achieving results such as:  Review the full publication as a whole;  Act as the editorial chief of the publication;  Ghost write articles as required for the publication;  Catch any stylistic and grammatical mistakes;  Ensure the document is consistent in its use of terminology, key metrics and tone of voice across the entire publication;  Work with the Office of the Secretary General and Office of the President for keynote messages;  Report progress to the Project Lead from the BDU team.

Function 2 (incl. expected results) Assists the BDU Unit to attain revenue results/ business development / client referrals, achieving results such as:  Leverage contacts with ICAO Member States;  Attend in-person and virtual sales meetings with industry and Member States to discuss the publication;  Monitor the ICAO States Today email inbox and refer interested technical parties for advertising opportunities;  Attend and confer on a technical basis with Digital Revamp and BDU on sales calls to help close potential advertising agreements;  Suggest potential partners to Digital Revamp and BDU for advertising sales and collaboration.

Function 3 (incl. expected results) Formats the ICAO States Today publication, achieving results such as:  Assist in developing a State profile template;  Ensure that the look and feel of the publication are consistent with ICAO standards;  Ensure the document is consistent in its use of terminology, key metrics and tone of voice across the entire publication;  Ensure content quality across the entire publication;  Seek approvals from ICAO management and the communication team;  Manage and coordinate articles between the originator, editor and graphic designer, according to the schedule;  Work with the BDU, PTM Units and Digital Revamp to deliver the final publication.

Function 4 (incl. expected results) Serves as an aviation subject matter expert of the ICAO States Today publication, achieving results such as:  Provide writing expertise to ICAO Member States for their profile creation;  Provide thematic and creative content contributions for the publication;  Help turn ICAO documents, existing stories and other resources into articles for the publication.

Function 5 (incl. expected results) Additional duties as required  Given the dynamic nature of this assignment, the priority of tasks and duties may shift over time based on ICAO needs

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Essential  A first-level university degree in communications, journalism or in a related field pertaining to article editing. Desirable  Courses in business or project management.

Experience: Essential  A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in article creation, communications, and/or editing;  Experience in aviation and/or with ICAO and/or UN agencies;  Proficient writing skills with proper email, telephone and social media etiquette;  Presentation and communication skills, ability to present in front of a group;  Ability to work as a team player in a cross-functional structure;  Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Desirable  Project management skills in the field of aviation;  Familiarity with aviation industry and ICAO Member States.

Language: Essential  Fluent reading, writing and speaking abilities in English. Desirable  A working knowledge of any other language of the Organization (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).

Additional Information Please note that the monthly rate for Band B varies from CAD 5,097 to CAD 8,122 per month.
