BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.

We are currently seeking a dymanic HR Project Manager Consultant to join the Front Office team of the Human Resources Division in Headquarters.

The Human Resources Division is all about people. With a team of about 200 in HQ and more than 700 globally, this function works at the strategic and operational levels to ensure that WFP has the right people in place to deliver on its mandate. This is supported through the recently approved WFP People Policy and HR's own new functional strategy, both being implemented at this time.

The HR Front Office represents the top management of the global HR function and their support team, which includes a Senior Advisor (Oversight and Complaince), to whom this position reports. Working in this team, you’ll have the opportunity to gain a bird’s-eye view of people management in a global organization of 20,000+ people.

The role will support the Senior Advisor who carries the overall responsibility for providing a wide range of specialized support to the Director and the broader HR management team as well as coordinating departmental and cross-divisional processes and activities led by the Director. In this context, the incumbent will use their strong collaboration skills to actively engage and partner with a cross-section of senior colleagues as well as their structured approach and high attention to detail in order to ensure the most accurate and effective respresentation of Human Resources activities in the organization. They will also play a central role in the overall smooth functioning of Front Office and cross-divisional processes, supporting activities that impact the overall HR function.

ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Facilitate and contribute to key business processes and initatives driven from the HR Front Office.
  2. Support in consolidating and reporting on divisional work planning/activities and, as required, relevant implementation.
  3. Undertake substantive analysis and content development (strategic and operational) to ensure that ideas, engagements, projects, supporting documents or otherwise lend to the appropriate reflection and positioning of Human Resources.
  4. Monitor relevant corporate and high-level initatives and proceedings (e.g. Executive Board), developing and maintaining necessary background materials and/or inputs.
  5. Develop substantive inputs, reports and briefing/meeting materials for HR or other management and for corporate processes.
  6. Identify opportunities for specific methodology and process improvements within the office.
  7. Assist in proving general oversight, risk management and compliance to activities of the division, establishing and maintaining relevant databases/registers, tools or guidance and highlighting any thematic items of concern.
  8. Recognize and assess the sensitivity of information obtained, respecting the confidential nature of senior level information and sources.
  9. Any other duties as assigned

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

1) Appropriate content development and timely submission of necessary reports and briefs. 2) Required substantive analyses and regular contributions to key divisional and corporate processes. 3) Establishment or enhancement of key internal working processes. 4) Development and effective management of internal registries/databases, monitoring and reporting systems across selected thematic areas. 5) Other key projects as defined.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

University degree in human resources, business administration, social sciences, international relations, or related field.

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in project management, information management, reporting or related areas. Experience in an HR-related context.

Experience of working in an international environment with the senior level is desirable. Ability to ensure that monitoring processes are gender responsive.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Strong conceptual development, analytical and writing skills (in English).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to build relationships.
  • Ability to work under pressure (e.g. time constraints, minimal inputs, etc.).
  • Strong communication and engagement skills, with an ability to present information to a variety of audiences including senior management in an impactful and concise way.
  • Analytical mind, passion for detail, while still able to see the big picture.
  • Structured approach to problem solving.
  • Self-starter with little need for management.
  • Team player/collaborator able to work both within the team but also with other teams.
  • Knowledge and understanding of WFP and stakeholder culture is an asset.

Languages:

Excellent command of oral and written English. Proficiency in another official UN language (Arabic, French, Russian, Chinese or Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working language) would be desirable.
