Result of Service To promote the integration of social, economic, and environmental data and to fill in data gaps for estimating indicators on sustainable development goals in the Arab world. The focus is on enhancing geo-statistical data acquisition and dissemination and on showcasing user-centric analytical capabilities for capacity-building and integration activities.

Work Location Office (UN-House ESCWA)

Expected duration The duration of the assigned work is from 1 September 2022 to 28 February 2023 (6 months).

Duties and Responsibilities The individual contractor will be responsible for the following:

To develop Geographical Information System (GIS) datasets and conduct a large set of quantitative and qualitative data analysis at different scales and coverage. To Implement, hands-on, GIS-statistical analytical work and conduct comparative geo-spatial analyses with emphasis on quality assurance and control. To assist build a geostatistical data clearinghouse. To work in a team environment and to report to the coordinator of the project.

The contractor will also be responsible for the following:

  • Contribute to collating geo-statistical databases and portal applications.
  • Locate and identify regional, national, and subnational data.
  • Develop efficient data collection, analysis, and dissemination methods.
  • Assist in designing geostatistical databases.
  • Document the quality, accuracy, and consistency of data.
  • Assist in implementing geostatistical edits and imputation
  • Help in the development of indicators.
  • Produce dashboards, charts, maps, and infographics.
  • Participate in data validation.

    Qualifications/special skills Competency: Good planning and organizational skills. Ability to work flexibly and under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

Skills: Strong GIS hands-on analytical skills. Skillful in ESRI ArcGIS Desktop and related extensions including Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, and Geostatistical Analyst. Skillful in ESRI ArcGIS Online applications including ArcGIS Dashboards, Experience Builder, Story Maps.

Academic Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in Geographic Information System, Engineering, or related areas is required.

Experience: A minimum of two years of work experience in Geographical Information Systems is required. Proven hand on experience in the production of geographic information products is required. Experience in GIS related work in the Arab region is desirable. Working knowledge in R, Python and/or Arcade is desirable. Experience in data integration and spatial ETL is desirable. Experience in statistical concepts, sources, and methods is desirable.

Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, Fluency in English and Arabic are required.
