Expected duration As soon as possible, for an initial period of six (06) months, with possible extension.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions around the world as well as to other UN Offices, Agencies Funds and Programs.

This position is located in the Generator Cell, Sourcing Support Unit (SSU), Supply Chain Service at the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy. The Contractor provides efficient technical assistance to a senior engineering staff and to other users in support of activities related to the design, development and execution of various engineering services related primarily to generator mechanics services in UNGSC.

The Contractor is under the general supervision of the Chief Generator Cell.

The Individual Contractor will contribute to the various engineering services by undertaking the following tasks:

  • Carries out installations on small and large capacity generator sets and related equipment.
  • Carries out scheduled and routine maintenance, emergency repairs and overhaul of generators (static/mobile), including the installation of auxiliary fuel systems, such as tanks, transfer pumps and pit works.
  • Responsible for installing and maintaining generator sets and related equipment within mission.
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient use of tools and specialized equipment.
  • Assists with carrying out scheduled periodic and emergency maintenance services on all the installations and equipment.
  • Ensures most economical and effective layout of electrical installations together with achieving high level of productivity in work assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: - High School diploma or equivalent is required. - Technical certificate either from a Technical College/Trade School or through an accepted national apprenticeship programme is desirable. - Certification as a heavy equipment mechanic is desirable. - Valid national driving license for B class is required. - Valid national driving license for C class is desirable.

Experience: - A minimum of two (02) years practical experience in installation, repair and servicing of generators in a private, commercial, or military environment. - Work experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic is desirable. - Work experience using Generator/Vehicle Electronic diagnostic tools is desirable.

Language: - English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. - Knowledge of Italian is required. - Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
