O****rganizational Setting

The position is located in FAO representation Office, Islamabad. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

Overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Pakistan (FAOR); direct supervision of the Assistant FAOR (Programme)

Technical Focus

 Engage with staff/ partners/ beneficiaries/government officials on gender mainstreaming and its practical agricultural/horticultural value chain development applications.

 Assist in the development of proposals, work plans, field-related working papers and documents, and support donor

reporting

Tasks and responsibilities

 Based on analysis and interpretation of localized socio-economic gender-based conditions, lead field teams through a gender lens to achieve the Project’s Outputs and Outcomes.

 Provide advice and support to the FAO management, programmes, and projects on gender issues, and how to best achieve realistic and attainable progress through practical application of the gender-specific tools.

 Develop guidelines for gender specific programming; take lead in directing gender-specific field level initiatives.

 Provide substantive inputs to programme development and other strategic documents.

 Ensure that all the ongoing programmes are in line with FAO’s Strategic Framework, Country Programming Framework

(CPF), and priorities have been set with respect to gender issues.

 Represent FAO in different working groups and on interagency working forums.

 Develop, maintain, and disseminate a comprehensive knowledge base on gender perspectives for promoting the professional development of staff.

 Analyze country's gender policies and their impact on poverty reduction, food insecurity, economic growth, and equity

and equality.

 Training and capacity development of FAO staff, government officials, and public institutions on gender issues and their practical application to achieve objectives related to enhanced agricultural and horticultural productivity, quality compliance, diversified markets, and food security.

 Support technical units in designing of gender-sensitive tools for assessments.

 Ensure inclusion of gender-specific objectives, indicators, targets and activities throughout the project implementation.

 Prepare gender mainstreaming strategy for FAO programmes and orient project staff and relevant stakeholders on that.

 Contribute to the development of detailed work plan of the projects to ensure mainstreaming of the gender.

 Ensure and contribute to developing gender-sensitive training material, manuals and IEC material.

 Coordinate with Reporting Officer / Communication Specialist to prepare and timely submit periodic progress reports, success stories and case studies, etc.

 Perform other related duties as and when required by the programme or respective supervisors

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

M****inimum Requirements

  • Advance University Degree in social science especially gender studies, public administration, and development studies or relevant discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years working experience and specifically 6 years in gender analysis, gender-sensitive needs; assessment and experience in developing and carrying out training sessions with socio-economic and gender aspects of the agriculture and rural development
  • Working knowledge (Level C) of English and local languages of Pakistan.
  • National of Pakistan

 Demonstrated ability in directing women’s economic empowerment through agricultural enterprises / business

development, and experience in training of women groups in rural areas,

 Extensive experience in research and policy-level analysis,

 Substantial experience in design, monitoring, and evaluation of agricultural-related women’s uplifting projects, and

 Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages.

 Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Power-point etc)
