Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The year 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the Fourth UN World Conference on Women and adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995), the international blueprint for gender equality and women’s empowerment. In that context, UN Women is convening the Generation Equality Forum, a global gathering for gender equality, co-chaired by France and Mexico, with the leadership and partnership of civil society.

The Generation Equality Forum (GEF) is a civil-society centred, multi-stakeholder global gathering for gender equality, convened by UN Women and co-hosted by the governments of Mexico and France, in partnership with civil society. Through co-creation and diverse and inclusive consultations, the GEF in Mexico City (29 - 31 March, 2021) brought together feminist advocates from across the globe to foster action and renew movements for gender equality, as well as launch a set of innovative and multi-stakeholder Action Coalitions. The GEF in Paris (30 June - 2 July, 2021) is set for grand commitments by the leaders of Action Coalitions to propel a global agenda of gender equality for the next five years.

In the next few months, Action Coalition for Technology and Innovation plans to begin enactment of the blueprint alongside the newly joined commitment makers and other potential partners. To support the Action Coalition leaders and partners in this process, the AC T&I would require bringing on board a competent team member to help work on emerging initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Senior Manager for the Action Coalition on Innovation and Technology, the successful candidate will be responsible for and contribute to the following:

  • Action Coalition’s coordination: help coordinate the coalition’s activities, conduct initial research for emerging ideas and initiatives, support the design of the accountability and reporting framework, etc.
  • Challenge project: help co-design and implement the action coalition’s first innovation challenge.
  • Partnership: Support leveraging new partnerships and engage with the coalition’s commitment makers, especially with all the youth networks constituencies.
  • Communication and advocacy: Support information and knowledge management on campaigns, social media management and other existing initiatives.
  • Events and workshop organization: Support organization of meetings with leaders and commitment makers.
