Building on work across the UN with and for young people, and in line with the UN Youth Strategy, UNICEF has developed a new global partnership dedicated to expanding opportunity for young people, ages 10-24. Generation Unlimited (GenU) is centered on finding new ways to ensure that every young person is in school, learning, training or employment by 2030 — with a focus on those in the greatest danger of being left behind, including girls, the poorest, those with disabilities, young people on the move and those affected by conflict and natural disasters.

This partnership brings together leaders from governments, UN agencies, the private sector, academia, international and civil society organizations, and young people. The partnership will identify, co-create, resource and scale-up innovative solutions to expand opportunity for young people. Good programmes will be matched with adequate financing and technical support; investors will find viable solutions to invest in and strong accountability mechanisms that provide adequate assurance of results and financial management; and young people will participate meaningfully in the co-creation of solutions, informing, advising and helping implement at every step of the way.

How can you make a difference?

Under the general guidance and supervision of the Senior Advisor, Partnerships and Resources Mobilization, the Fundraising specialist is responsible for the development of a fundraising package and the operationalization of the GenU resource mobilization strategy. This includes facilitation of GenU fundraising efforts, tracking of funding trends and gaps, and initiating, maintaining and deepening relations with key public and private sector stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the operationalization of the fundraising/resource mobilization strategy.
  • Develop key fundraising kits – including standard/bespoke proposals to mobilize resources for all GenU programs in line with the fundraising targets and objectives.
  • Update the Donor mapping - Develop and maintain deep knowledge and familiarity with current and prospective partners and relevant stakeholders, contributing to a database of key contacts and to GenU's base of knowledge on partnership and resource mobilization.
  • Maintain up-to-date information on donors and income trends, analyze funding opportunities, and keep donor partners’ profiles updated.
  • Assist with the preparation of information to provide to public and private donors and other partners on the strategy, design, relevance and impact of GenU programmes.
  • Build and maintain GenU’s partnerships with public and private donors, by supporting the development of strategies and engagement plans based on donors’ specific interests and aid frameworks.
  • Track the resource mobilization strategy and action plan in collaboration with the Senior advisor and the section team. This includes support to proposal development, including editing and layout when necessary.
  • Regularly liaise with programme section, as well as participate in strategic meetings to ensure an updated and comprehensive knowledge base on GenU programme’s to support effective fundraising effort.
  • Prepare briefing documents for the Senior advisor and CEO meetings and missions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure the success of the team, including guiding, training, and coaching short-term staff, including interns and consultants, as needed.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in one of the following fields is required: Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, Management or another relevant technical field.
  • Alternatively, a first level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in combination with 7 years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in public and or private sector fundraising is required, with progressively increasing responsibilities, including direct responsibility for setting and meeting income targets.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.

Your appointment is limited to GEN U, a UNICEF hosted fund. While UN staff regulations and rules, as well as UNICEF policies and procedures, apply to you during your appointment, certain provisions therein may apply to you differently due to the limited scope of your appointment. In particular, you will not be subject to rotation exercise as per the Executive Directive on Staff mobility and rotation (CF/EXD/2015-002) or any revision thereof. In addition, during your appointment in GEN U, you will not be considered eligible for conversion to a Continuing Appointment as per UNICEF Administrative Instruction on Continuing Appointment (CF/AI/2017-002) or any revision thereof. In the event that your post is abolished, the priority granted and other support provided to staff on abolished posts in staff selection processes will only be extended to posts within GEN U and not to other posts in UNICEF.

To secure a UNICEF appointment outside GEN U, you will need to be selected in a competitive recruitment exercise. Upon selection for a UNICEF post outside of UNICEF hosted funds, the period you have served with the UNICEF hosted fund will count towards the calculation of the tour of duty in your duty station and eligibility for a continuing appointment.
