Result of Service Production of final communication material related to economic, financial and development issues. Preparation and execution of podcasts episodes with English speaking staff. Editing and review of all texts written in English. Filming and voicing over videos in English.

Duties and Responsibilities Brief and Scope of Work: Under the supervision of the Secretary of the Commission and Head of External Relations and Communications at ESCWA, the Financial News Editor produces and reviews communication material related to economic, financial and development issues. He/She oversees content development, including original news articles, social media content, and videos and podcasts, and pushes through product improvements, based on client and audience feedback.

Main responsibilities: - Write, edit, and proofread multimedia content, including newsletter stories, video scripts, social media content, press releases, etc. - Ensure content is delivered to engage and attract the desired target audience, using the best multimedia format for the relevant target audience, with particular emphasis on video. - Increase use of data journalism, infographics, and interactive elements such as polls in news and social channels. - Review artwork, design, photography products and check content for accuracy and errors. - Write, edit, and proofread news stories, press releases and Op-eds. - Verify facts, dates and statistics, using standard reference sources. - Carry out more extensive editing where required, including rewriting, abridging, and restructuring texts for greater readability and better logical sequence. - Assist staff and provide them with advice on matters concerning editorial practices. - Contribute to coverage plans for daily and future events/stories.

Qualifications/special skills A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Media writing, English literature or related area is required.

Experience in editing and writing for English media outlets is required. Experience in economic, financial and development related content writing is desirable.

Languages Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.

For this position, fluency in English is required knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
