Who we are looking for: we are seeking to identify a Field Data Engineer that focuses on that focuses on field data integration into our corporate data integration platform.

What we offer: a consultancy contract of up to 6 months from start date will be offered to the selected candidate(s) with a possible extension.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The TEChnology Division (TEC) of the World Food Programme (WFP) is supporting the enterprise-wide deployment of the Palantir Foundry data integration platform to enable business units to achieve new analytical insights utilizing corporate data.

The data engineer, under the supervision of the Field Data Coordination Lead, will deliver priority data integration use cases for Country Offices in collaboration with relevant business teams that will result in the following key deliverables:

Ingestion of data from critical and local systems that support WFP’s global operations; Modeling of transactional data to result in the build of WFP’s corporate ontology for operational domains, including, but not limited to, Supply Chain, Logistics, Budget, Finance, Cash-based Transfers (CBT), Country-level planning and monitoring activities, and Beneficiary services; Adherence to WFP’s data governance framework, to include implementation of protection and privacy guidelines on sensitive data.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement the end-to-end data pipeline in WFP’s data integration platform, Palantir Foundry, for data domains, and track data pipeline dependencies.
  • Working together with Data Ingestion team to configure the technical connection for external data sources ingestion.
  • Write/coding transformations to produce clean data and derive new datasets in Foundry.
  • Participate in ontology design reviews for the data domains working closely with SME (Subject Matter Expert).
  • Connect the source data to the ontology in Foundry, expand the ontology when needed, review code-pull requests for changing the ontology with collaboration with other Data Modellers for other data domains.
  • Responsible for the ontology data correctness and availability.
  • Monitor data loading processes, investigate, debug, root cause analysis, and solve pipeline issues.
  • Define and review data health checks in Foundry.
  • Configure and update Object Views based on Business User needs.
  • Ensure user accounts have the right access level to the data pipeline and object views, compliance with corporate standards.
  • Train end-users on the data pipeline and object views as needed.
  • Produce a quick-reference to the end-to-end data pipeline.
  • Participate in the ontology coordination across data domains.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT

  • Demonstrated progress on consistent implementation of end-to-end data pipeline (data ingestion, data transformation, corporate Ontology, and object views)
  • Demonstrated progress on the usability of corporate Ontology by business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated progress on implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and improvement of the end-to-end data pipeline health in Foundry.
  • Participated in meetings/workshops with business stakeholders to capture business rules and transformations.
  • Demonstrated progress on activities supporting key data initiatives.
  • Performed other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education

University Degree in Information Technology Management, Data Management, Engineering, Statistics, and other relevant disciplines.

Experience

4+ years of relevant progressive work experience in Data Modelling, Business Intelligence and analytics, and project management.

  • Experience in Data Modelling and analytics.
  • Experience in developing project plans.
  • Strong track record of delivering results in a complex environment.
  • Experience working on information technology projects is essential.

Technical Experience, Skills & Knowledge

  • Experience in data modeling, data extractions, and data load monitoring in one or more of these modules: Supply Chain Management (SCM), Logistics (LES), Materials Management (MM), Financial (FI), Funds Management (FM), Grants Management (GM).
  • Experience in Foundry data pipeline implementation or the ability to learn fast and hands-on in WFP’s data integration platform, Palantir Foundry.
  • Ability to take on open-ended problems in unstructured environments and deliver quick results.
  • Experience with Agile methodology and problem-centric solution design.
  • Considerable experience working with a broad range of data collection, data mining, data discovery, ETL, and data cleansing.
  • Proficiency in using the programming language: ABAP, python, or SQL (experience with R is a plus).
  • Good understanding of project management methodologies.
  • Experience convening workshop with business experts.
  • Apply an analytical approach with attention to detail, and consistently demonstrate problem-solving perspective.

Language:

Fluency in oral and written English is essential. An intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is required.
