Expert on economic and statistical analysis

Result of Service The service will provide UNCTAD with data uploads for the ECDE database, a feasibility study for an ECDE policy tracker, and statistical inputs for the Pacific edition of the Digital Economy Report.

Work Location Home based with one round trip to Geneva to participate in a 2-day technical team meeting organized by the ECDE Data Governance project and tentatively scheduled for the second half of September 2022.

Expected duration Contract duration: 22 August to 9 December 2022. Effective working time: 4 months. Place of work: Homebased.

Duties and Responsibilities The individual contractor will support UNCTAD’s E-Commerce and Digital Economy Branch in the design and implementation of its Data Governance project and support the finalization of the Pacific Digital Economy Report Under the supervision of the Project Officers, the individual contractor will have the following responsibilities:

Data Governance project: - Assist the project officer in the preparations of the specifications document for the ECDE indicators database and collect data for selected indicators and preparation of data files for upload in the ECDE database. - Provide research and analytical support for a feasibility study for an UNCTAD tool for tracking e-commerce and digital economy policies, including developing a compendium of existing trackers, drafting of recommendations for the development of an ECDE policy tracker (added value over existing tools), and, if recommended, drafting of the technical specifications and structure for such a tracker.

Pacific Digital Economy Report: - Provide substantive and statistical support in the finalization of all chapters, by ensuring consistency of figures and tables with text, checking consistency of statistics and analyses provided as well as verification of references. - Finalization of the statistical evidence of the report, liaising with the graphic designer for the preparation of the final figures and tables and verifying that the designs are correctly reflecting the evidence. - Support the final stage of preparation of the report, doing the final controls for ensuring overall consistency and coherence of the chapters substance and design, bibliography, and all the sections to be included, as well as proof reading the whole document.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Master in economics, development economics, statistics or social sciences. Experience: At least seven years of relevant experience, especially in the area of economic statistics and market analysis. Language: Fluency written and oral in English is required.
