This is a UNV International Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Youth contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Effective Governance Cluster Lead, the International UN Youth Volunteer will:

  • Provide support in the research and the development of programming in the area of democratic governance;

  • Contribute to the drafting of concept notes and project proposals in the respective fields;

  • Support the development of innovative approaches and solutions to advancing partnerships with CSOs, including women’s and youth’s organisations, and to strengthening the demand-side for transparency, integrity and accountability of the governance institutions by engaging men and women;
  • Assist in the implementation of the ongoing projects as part of the projects’ teams ( e.g. Elections, Corruption Prevention, Public Finance management, etc.);
  • Support CO in implementing the Czech UNDP Challenge Fund for SDGs;
  • Assist in the areas related to the documentation, translation and editing, where possible and relevant;

  • Participate in team meetings, exercises, trainings and field visits;

  • Pro-actively contribute to the implementation of the UNDP work on innovation;
  • Support in arranging external and internal meetings, draft minutes of meetings (when necessary);
  • Maintain and update relevant cluster planning documents and presentations;
  • Support in the preparation of relevant background documentation and data required for programmatic and operational purposes;

  • Contribute to the performing of other programme related tasks, as required by Cluster Lead.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

- Academic: Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, International Relations or other relevant fields;

Required experience:

Experience remark:

  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in governance, public administration, parliamentary development, anti-corruption, international development, international relations, or other fields relevant to the work of the UNDP Moldova Effective Governance Cluster portfolio;
  • Motivated to contribute towards peace and development and to serve others;
  • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;

  • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team;

  • Initiative, creativity and resourcefulness;
  • Flexible and open to learning and new experiences;
  • Adherence to the core values of the United Nations, in particular, respect of diversity and differences of culture, gender, religion, ethnicity, nationality, language, age, HIV status, disability, and sexual orientation, or other status;
  • Adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions;

  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;

  • Excellent computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others).

Learning Expectations

Learning and development are a central part of the UN Youth Volunteer’s assignment and take place before, during and after his or her assignment in the field. Ideally, offering diverse opportunities for learning and development aim to strengthen the volunteer’s skills and competences, improve the quality of the assignment and keep the volunteer’s motivation high.

Learning elements for the UN Youth Volunteer include the development of:

  • Professional skills: including specific competencies and reflection on assignment-related abilities; and on-the-job skills such as time management, problem solving, team building; and career preparedness such as interview skills, CV preparation, job searching.
  • Inter-personal skills: including communication and listening skills; multi-cultural awareness and cultural competency; and conflict and stress management.
  • Volunteering-related skills: including leadership; civic responsibility; and engagement and active participation.

Beyond the learning opportunities provided by UNV, the host agency will support knowledge and capacity development in the technical areas that are relevant to the UN Youth Volunteer’s assignment. The host agency will provide, at its expense, UN Youth Volunteers with equal opportunity to participate in training courses and workshops offered to its personnel.
