**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Education Sector (ED) Duty Station: Multiple Classification of duty station: \[\[filter12\]\] Standard Duration of Assignement : \[\[filter13\]\] Job Family: Education Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : Internal and external candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 06-JUL-2022 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- **Level:** Senior-level **Duration:** 01/07/2022 – 31/12/2022 (6 months) **Location:** Remote **TERMS OF REFERENCE** Under the overall supervision of the Director of the Division for Peace and Sustainable Development, and the direct supervision of the Chief of Section of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), the contractor shall contribute to: 1\) **the development of a strategy of UNESCO in ESD (35%):** the strategy aims at complementing the ESD for 2030 framework and its roadmap, through defining the strategic outcomes and implementing strategy for UNESCO teams at global, regional and country levels; 2\) **the development and implementation of the global network of education stakeholders, ESD-Net 2030 (35 %):** since the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, 2005-2014), UNESCO has been convening a number of opportunities for knowledge exchange and cooperation among education stakeholders, which generated a broad community of practice on ESD, comprising around 4000 individuals and institutions worldwide. They are connected through UNESCO’s communication channels - UNESCO ESD Newsletter and ESD LinkedIn Group. UNESCO is expanding this large community of practice into a global network, under the name of ESD-Net 2030, based on the success and lessons learned from the previous Global Action Programme (GAP) network, to facilitate the implementation of the ESD for 2030 framework. Being a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, mutual learning, advocacy, monitoring, and evaluation, the network aims to enhance exchange and collaboration among a wide range of stakeholders including governmental agencies, civil society organizations, educators, youth, research institutions, UN partners, international development communities, business entities, etc. 3\) **the organization of the regional ESD for 2030 meetings in cooperation with the UNESCO Regional Bureaus of Education in Africa, Arab States, Asia-Pacific, Europe & North America and Latin America & the Caribbean (30 %):** following the World Conference on ESD in May 2021, five regional ESD for 2030 follow-up meetings will be organized in close coordination with Regional Bureaus, and ideally in conjunction with their respective regional SDG4 meetings if the timing allows (e.g. APMED for Asia-Pacific, ARMED for Arab States, annual Steering Committee meeting or ministerial conference in LAC, etc.) in order to enhance the articulation of ESD with the broader scope of quality education, and countries’ efforts in addressing diverse sustainability challenges. Member States will be invited to share their respective country initiatives on this occasion. Long Description ---------------- More specifically, the incumbent shall: UNESCO Strategy in ESD 1\) Prepare a concept note with suggested modalities of consultations including a set of guiding questions, a list of participants, and a workplan 2\) Support organizing the consultations with UNESCO staff in HQ, the Field and Institutes as well as with selected partners and donors 3\) Design a structure of the strategy paper and write up a strategy of UNESCO in ESD ESD-Net 2030 4\) Prepare a programme of activities 2022-2023 of the ESD-Net 2030 including a work plan, and monitor and report the progress on a monthly basis 5\) Develop concept notes of the activities based on the analysis of the critical needs and latest trends 6\) Prepare the activity reports, web articles for the ESD webpage, messages and posts for the ESD Linked In Group and other communication channels 7\) Support the communication and exchange with the representatives of the ESD for 2030 Country Initiatives and other ESD partners 8\) Participate in the ESD-Net 2030 launching online event in September and draft a report ESD for 2030 regional meetings 9\) Prepare guidance material (e.g. agenda template, facilitator/speaker guide) for regional adaption 10\) Coordinate the preparation and organize regional meetings in collaboration with the concerned UNESCO Offices 11\) Prepare a report from the regional meetings with policy recommendations for the ESD-Net based on the discussions Long Description ---------------- **Deliverables** 1. An interim report on the development of a UNESCO Strategy in ESD 30 September 2022 4. A report on the ESD-Net 2030 launching online event in September 31 October 2022 5. A Report on regional ESD for 2030 meetings 31 December 2022 **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- 1\) **Education:** Master's degree in education, international relationships or any other relevant areas 2\) **Experience:** At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in education. - Expertise and experience in the areas of education for sustainable development.
