Job Description

Overview:

The Education Enrollment Specialist is responsible for enrolling all adult clients into English classes, predominantly at the English Language Center, by making English assessment appointments and facilitating clients’ successful completion of ELC assessments. Where an adult client needs higher level English instruction, the Education Enrollment Specialist is responsible for investigating with the client as to which English provider would be most appropriate, and getting them enrolled with that provider. Additionally, the Education Enrollment Specialist will support the Youth Success Specialist in enrolling K-12 eligible children into public education with the School District corresponding to the family’s long-term housing. This is a challenging position that requires meticulous record keeping, strong organization, creative problem-solving, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced, multicultural environment. This position reports to the Resettlement Manager.

Responsibilities:

Adult English enrollments:

The Education Enrollment Specialist will:

· Submit English assessment requests in the Statewide Refugee Information System (SRIS) for all assigned adults by the weekly submission deadline.

· Coordinate with scheduled individuals to ensure their participation in assessments, including facilitating transportation, insuring that families understand the time commitment and attendance commitment and have child care arranged in order to attend.

· Track the level of class to which the individuals are assigned and help them understand the logistics in order to successfully attend regularly, all 5 days of the week the classes are made available to them.

· Help the families problem shoot any obstacles to attendance.

· If an adult individual’s English tests at a level above classes offered by the English Language Center, assess which other local English instruction would be most appropriate, with particular attention to resources available at College of Western Idaho (CWI). Once the appropriate service provider is identified, enroll the individual in English classes through that provider, no later than 30 days post arrival.

K-12 Public school enrollments:

- In close collaboration with IRC’s Youth Success Specialist, complete newly arrived refugee children’s school enrollments and conduct orientation meetings with new students and their teachers, for those families that the Youth Success Specialist designates are the Education Enrollment Specialist’s responsibility. - Assist refugees with enrollment in school-related services. - Conduct check-ins with children and their teachers for all children still within children’s first year of arrival. - Support the family with understanding transportation logistics of school attendance.

Other Duties

· For all education enrollments, the Education Enrollment Specialist is responsible to note the completion of each enrollment, and any complications or difficulties doing so, in the direct services documentation system Efforts to Outcomes (ETO).

· As assigned by the Finance Manager or Executive Director

Job Requirements:

Work Experience: 1 year demonstrated record of success in helping individuals access benefits, especially those made available through a government provider.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

· Highly organized self-starter with demonstrated problem-solving and follow-through ability, and proven success in managing multiple and diverse priorities under pressure.

· Strong analytic problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications.

· Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time in a demanding, fast-paced environment.

· Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure.

· Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

· Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner.

· Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed.

· Valid driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle with current insurance.

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent directly related experience preferred.

Experience & Skills:

· Fluency in English required.

· Language skills in a refugee language and / or lived refugee experience preferred.
