The Inclusive Growth and Structural Policy Division of the Institute for Capacity Development (ICDIS) is seeking to hire two Economist/Sr. Economist with climate expertise at Washington, D.C. The division is one of the four capacity development (CD) delivery divisions in ICD established at the beginning of FY2022 to replace a regional division structure. The division’s capacity development activities—involving training and technical assistance—relate to the areas of inclusive growth, macroeconomics of climate change, macroeconomic management of natural resources, vulnerability diagnostics, regional economic integration, and macroeconomics of gender inequality.

The selected candidate will be responsible for contributing to ICD’s work on the incorporation and climate change implications (including natural disasters) and related (adaptation and/or mitigation) policies into macroeconomic frameworks and economic models. The candidate will also be expected to (i) participate in technical assistance activities, including joining missions to member countries; (ii) provide support to IMF country teams on incorporating climate change impact and climate policies into their macroeconomic frameworks; (iii) deliver ICD training with modalities including in-person and virtual delivery activities both in IMF headquarters at D.C. and across the regional capacity development centers; and (iv) support ICD’s broader capacity development agenda, including through helping develop new related training and workshop material.

Qualifications

  • An advanced university degree in economics or related field supplemented by a minimum of four years of professional experience.
  • Policy or analytical experience in the area of economics of climate change.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a flexible and cooperative attitude, and the ability to work effectively with people at all levels.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is essential.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to work both independently and in teams and must be flexible and able to work on tight deadlines. Superior time/project management skills are essential.
  • It is expected that the successful candidate will take up his/her position as soon as possible.

This vacancy shall be filled by a 3-year Term appointment in accordance with the Fund’s new employment rules that took effect on May 1, 2015.

A regular staff member who is selected to fill the vacancy will maintain their open-ended status. If the selected candidate is a contractual employee, they will be offered a Term staff appointment. Staff members already on a term appointment will continue their current term but may receive an extension provided that their current term appointment has not already been extended.
