ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization committed to saving lives in emergencies and changing lives through sustainable development. In India, WFP has been working in partnership with the Government for more than 50 years to contribute to its efforts to achieve food and nutrition security. WFP does this by demonstrating scalable pilots, providing specialized knowledge and international experience for effective implementation of food safety nets and supporting research and monitoring efforts. WFP contributes towards making government’s food programmes and safety nets including the Targeted Public Distribution System, the Mid-Day Meal Programme in schools and the Integrated Child Development Services more efficient and effective. The overall aim of WFP is to work towards efficient, accountable and streamlined systems for food access, delivery, as well as increasing the nutritional impact of government programmes.

SCOPE OF WORK

WFP is looking for a Digital Communications Associate, who is well versed with developing and managing social media content across different digital channels to amplify WFP’s work in India with impactful messages that engage the target audience and build brand visibility. The associate must be aware of the latest digital tools and trends and should have a proven track record of growing engaged communities and have skills to develop innovative and attractive products including graphics, GIFS, short videos, infographics and other customized content. The scope of work will include developing content, engaging consumers strategically and monitoring impact and reach.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Social Media Strategy

• Determine target audience and define crisp, efficient messaging for that audience • Serve as strategist for the corporate social media channels, to develop and implement calendar for different platforms including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, intranet and website • Determine areas of opportunity, identify trends and champion new ideas around creative formats, tools and tracking

Multimedia Content Creation

• Assist communication officer in designing collaterals for uploading on WFP India website, graphics using Canva and mailers for various audiences • Collaborate with cross-functional team members in the country office for content ideas with the aim of creating dynamic, impactful & differentiated digital content that effectively communicates the work being done by teams. This can include (and not be limited to) assisting in storyboarding videos, animated content for social & behavior change communication or campaigns around certain international UN days • Oversee vendors with communication officer to ensure quality creatives and content are delivered in time • Liase with Social Media teams (our regional and headquarter offices) to create engaging, platform-specific high-impact content deliverables including copy, photos and multimedia content

Community & Insights Management

• Implementing strategies to encourage engagement and grow our online communities. • Look for key brand-building moments to engage audiences and create authentic and positive interaction with our followers. • Help evolve WFP India’s community response protocols. This also includes escalating any issues in a timely fashion, liaising with different departments for community management of their specific social media engagements. • Social Media Crisis Management – working with the communications officer and to ensure crises are properly managed and contained. • Analyze and understand social media metrics to provide actionable insights and make content creation and strategy decisions. Create monthly reports about the online engagements and reach.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Graduate degree with diploma/certificate in communications, social media management, multimedia design or journalism.

Experience : Minimum 5 years of experience in communications, and minimum 3 of experience in handling social media accounts for organizations Language: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Hindi language is an asset. Skills: Proven knowledge/portfolio of work in designing creatives (on tools like Canva or InDesign etc.) for social media content.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

• Experience in managing multiple social and digital media platforms simultaneously with an integrated outcome • Proven experience in managing and growing online communities • Knowledge and skill of developing both design and copy for digital content • Proven track record creating captivating content for digital and social media • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and trends • Firm understanding of how to use analytics to determine if efforts are effective • Ability to communicate complex topics in laymen terms using visual, audio and written language • Experience working on communications for development sector is preferable. • Knowledge of WFP’s work and knowledge/experience on working with development agencies and/or the UN in India.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

• Self-starter and able to time-manage and identify priorities • Attention to detail • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to quickly create reports/presentations in standard office software (Microsoft Office suite, Google docs, Keynote, etc.); • Ability to work in a team and in a diverse and rapidly changing work environment • Experience working within the social impact space • Ability to work with a diverse team in a rapidly changing work environment
