OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

To support countries in the WHO African Region to provide high quality immunization services that will contribute to: (a) the reduction of mortality, morbidity and disability from vaccine preventable diseases through the optimum use of available and new vaccines and (b) the strengthening of national health systems.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The incumbent will :-- Support overall data management for polio and immunization programmes;- Produce feedback and information bulletins;- Support capacity building of data managers and data users at IST and country levels;- Support the development, maintenance and updating of databases related to the PEP;- Support production and updating (reviewing) of data modules used at different levels based on programme needs;- Provide technical support for improving data quality in the ISTs and countries;- Compile and provide data for analysis, including but not limited to generating reports, tables, graphs and maps; - Assist in compilation of accountability framework data for monitoring staff performance using expected deliverables and key performance indicators;- Perform other related responsibilities as assigned, including replacing and backstopping for others as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree in computer science, information technology, communications or related field. Post graduate training in health informatics. Desirable:

Experience

Essential: Minimum of five (5) years' experience in the design of databases, data collection and reporting; at least three (3) years' demonstrable experience in management of databases for polio or immunization programmes. Desirable:

Skills

Excellent organizational, technical, databases management and analytical skills with the ability to multitask and resolve technical as related to databases management issues/problems in a proactive manner. Proven IT skills, particularly in databases and SharePoint applications. Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to solve and explain technical issues, and take part in to training activities with tact and diplomacy. Ability to write in a clear and concise manner, and to present factual information on database applications; knowledge of WHO/AFRO practices and procedures an advantage.

Use of Language Skills

Essential: Expert knowledge of English. Expert knowledge of French. Desirable: Beginners knowledge of Portuguese. The above language requirements are interchangeable.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 62,692 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2852 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
