This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the the duties of the COE Medical Inspector will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as the medical adviser to Chief COE Unit.
  • Serves as point of contact for contingent medical personnel on daily matters of MOU management.
  • Conduct arrival, operational readiness, repatriation, and other periodic inspections of formed unit’s medical facilities to verify by physical inspection that the troop contributing country or police contributing country of the United Nations are in compliance with their agreed responsibilities as detailed in the MOU.
  • Raise inspection verification reports of assigned contingent in UCM database and process them for approval by the chief, COE Unit.
  • Provides advise to formed units and the mission on all COE/MOU related matters regarding COE medical facilities including recommendations as to how non-compliance with the MOU, by either party may be rectified.
  • Maintain, within UCM database, inventories of COE medical facilities held by all formed units in the mission.
  • Maintain, within UCM database, inventories of COE held by all assigned formed units.
  • Oversees issuance of all UN owned equipment and UN provided services to assigned formed units and reflect impacts on self-sustained categories in verification reports.
  • Generate all forms of medical reports for the COE unit and on request by other sections.
  • Maintain assigned portion of the COE database in the COE unit
  • When working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-)governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs), the incumbent is strongly encouraged to set aside dedicated time for capacity development through coaching, mentoring and formal and on-the-job training.
  • Monitor and control the medical coverage of the Hospital level 2 and 3
  • Any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

M.B.Ch.B. or M.B.B.S or MD

Required experience:

36 Months

Experience remark:

Minimum of 3 years post-graduation clinical experience. Previous military or police career and experience in COE management is an added advantage.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
