**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Natural Sciences Sector (SC) Duty Station: Paris Job Family: Programme Coordination Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 7 to 11 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 28/11/2021 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- 1. **OBJECTIVE** To implement actions within the framework of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme's Amazonia Project in the Beni and Pilón Lajas Biosphere Reserves, Bolivia. **2. MAIN FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Under the general supervision of the Director of the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences (SC/EES), and the direct supervision of the Chief of Research and Policy Section, the consultant will support the implementation and coordination at the local level of the UNESCO-MAB Amazon project "Amazon Biosphere Reserve Project. Improving the Resilience and Halting Biodiversity Loss in the Greater Amazon Basin", in particular with the Bolivian MAB National Committee/Focal Point and the participating biosphere reserves (Beni and Pilón-Lajas) to carry out the following tasks: **A.** Coordinate the work of the Beni and Pilón Lajas Biosphere Reserves in terms of research, training and support to local sustainability initiatives through the contracts established with the biosphere reserves, and according to the workplan agreed with the MAB Secretariat at UNESCO Headquarters; **B.** Support the scientific committee team for data collection in these biosphere reserves, including maps, and visual and graphic materials; **C.** Support the organisation of communication and training meetings and workshops in the biosphere reserves; **D.** Establish contacts with the Beni and Pilón Lajas biosphere reserves for the activities agreed in the workplan and ensure follow-up so that quality results are delivered according to the agreed deadlines; **E.** Cooperate with the National Protected Areas Service (SERNAP) of Bolivia to facilitate regular communication on project activities. **F.** Preparation and submission of reports (including photos or videos when appropriate) on the implementation and development of the activities. Long Description ---------------- **3. SCHEDULE, MAIN DELIVERABLES AND PAYMENT** **1.** 30 November 2021: Preparation of the activity plan for the 11 months of work within the scope of the project. **2.** 30 December 2021: Discussion with the biosphere reserves on the activities to be developed in year 1 and the implementation of the contracts; support in the organisation and implementation of meetings and workshops with the different stakeholders (i.e., local communities, reserve participants, national focal point, scientific team, etc.). Report with description of the main meetings and workshops and their participants (including photos when available). **3.** 30 January 2022: Monitoring of the project tasks and the biosphere reserve activities. General report with the development of activities. **4.** 28 February 2022: Support in the design and organisation of training workshops on fire prevention and management in biosphere reserves. Report with the design of the workshops. **5.** 30 March 2022: Support in fieldwork and data collection to feed the geospatial and sustainable initiative databases. Contribute to the agenda and preparation of the joint dialogue meetings and workshops. General report on the development of activities carried out. Long Description ---------------- **6.** 30 April 2022: Support the collection of missing data to feed the geospatial and sustainable initiatives databases. Contribute to the agenda and preparation of the joint dialogue meetings and workshops. General report on the development of activities carried out. **7.** 30 May 2022: Follow-up the sustainable initiatives carried out by the biosphere reserves. Conduct fieldwork for data collection. General report on the development of activities. **8.** 30 June 2022: Contribute to the agenda and preparation of the joint dialogue workshops; follow-up of sustainable initiatives carried out by the reserves. Conduct fieldwork for data collection. General report with the development of activities. **9.** 30 July 2022: Support missing data collection and accompany biosphere reserve activities. General report with the development of activities. **10.** 30 August 2022: Evaluation of the results of the selected sustainable initiatives. Follow-up on the reserves and organisation of meetings when necessary. Report with the evaluation. **11.** 30 September 2022: Final narrative report on the activities carried out (with photos or videos if available), lessons learned and recommendations for continuity of technical assistance in the Science Sector.
