Result of Service - Successfully execute the strategic communications plan including outreach initiatives, enhancement of the PGA's online presence and implementation of information programmes. - Successfully maintain and continuously update and improve the official website of the PGA, with the aim of enhancing the availability of information in real-time relating to the PGA's activities. - Create high-quality visual concepts and develop production design to support the PGA's main priorities, events, and campaigns. - Development of high-quality visual concepts for events and campaigns. - President of the General Assembly (PGA), Chef de Cabinet, Spokesperson, and the team are well-informed and supported in all communication efforts.

Work Location New York.

Expected duration To commence as soon as possible, through 12 September 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Chef de Cabinet, and in close coordination with other members of the Communications Team, the consultant will:

  • Design and modify website from layout to function and according to a OPGA specifications.
  • Maintain and continuously update and improve the official website of the PGA, with the aim of enhancing the availability of information in real-time relating to the PGA's activities.
  • Create high-quality visual concepts and develop production design to support the PGA's main priorities, events and campaigns.
  • Strive to create visually appealing webpages that feature user-friendly design and clear navigation.
  • Design logo, create infographics, illustrations, from conceptualization and/or through manipulation of existing artwork or appropriate branding elements to support signature events and campaigns.
  • Monitor and analyze media and social media coverage relating to the activities of the PGA and provide advice on appropriate responses.
  • Support the Communications, Advocacy and Speechwriting Team in all communication efforts.
  • Provide advice on social media and a range of public information issues, methods, and approaches.
  • Support the communication and outreach strategy to enhance and elevate the digital/online presence of the President of the General Assembly (PGA).
  • Support the PGA's social media accounts and create social media packages for the PGA's priorities, events, activities and campaigns.
  • Contribute to the implementation of information programmes to publicize priority issues and/or major events on all available channels, including social media.
  • Liaise with counterparts in the Department of Global Communications, other UN departments, funds and programmes to promote effective and wide-ranging dissemination of General Assembly activities through UN media.
  • Support outreach initiatives to advance collaboration with Member States, UN offices and departments, and UN System entities.
  • Engage online influencers on social media; collaborate with the communications and media team on engaging online journalists and bloggers.
  • Monitor and use opportunities to tap into ongoing conversations, initiatives and campaigns.
  • Provide regular analytics on social media outreach, as well as advice and guidance on increasing engagement with existing and new audiences.
  • Abide by the Code of Ethics for the President of the General Assembly and the United Nations Financial Regulations and Rules; and,
  • Promote an office culture based on the shared values of professionalism, integrity, impartiality, accountability, transparency and respect.

    Qualifications/special skills Competency: - Strong understanding of UI, cross-browser compatibility, general web functions and standards.

  • Knowledge of the full range of communications approaches, tools, and methodologies essential to planning and executing effective media strategies and programmes, e.g., media operations, marketing and promotion, audience outreach, message targeting.
  • Ability to produce and curate a variety of communications products in a clear, concise style.
  • Ability to rapidly analyze and integrate diverse information from varied sources.
  • Ability to identify public affairs issues, opportunities and risks in an international environment.
  • Ability to diplomatically handle sensitive situations with target audiences and cultivate productive relationships.
  • Ability to produce a variety of written communications that are clear, concise and meaningful.
  • Understanding of UN policies, programmes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake a diversity of tasks within a demanding, multi-stakeholder environment, to prioritize among these tasks, and to work toward short deadlines.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve goals; solicits input by genuinely valuing others’ ideas and expertise; places team agenda before personal agenda.
  • Takes ownership of all responsibilities and honors commitments; delivers outputs for which one has responsibility within prescribed time and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with the mandates and activities of the United Nations General Assembly.

Academic Qualifications: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in international relations, communications, media studies, journalism, graphic design, visual and digital media or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience: - A minimum of five years of work experience in social/web media/design or related area is required. - Experience in designing logos and infographics is required. - Experience with creating digital content, video editing, graphic design, and production processes for websites is required. - Expertise and hands on experience with web applications, programming languages and web services is required. - Experience in working in a comparable office as well as with and/or knowledge of the United Nations, its agencies or relevant international organizations is desirable. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this post excellent drafting skills in the English language are required. Knowledge of an additional official language of the United Nations is an advantage.

Monthly payment of fee upon satisfactory completion of work assigned, as certified by the Supervisor. As per ST/AI/2013/4, consultants shall not be entitled to any paid leave. Monthly fees of consultants shall be prorated for any period of absence.
