You have:
- University degree in science or engineering or a related field.
- Advanced university degree in science or engineering an asset.
- A minimum of 7 years' experience in the field of radiation and nuclear safety.
- Experience in regulatory aspects of radiation and nuclear safety preferable.
- Extensive knowledge and previous experience in nuclear and radiation safety required.
- Experience in the organization of technical meetings, consultancy meetings.
- Excellent drafting and editing skills, including preparation of presentations required.
- Experience in international organizations and knowledge of nuclear issues an asset.
- Knowledge of the IAEA safety standards would be an asset.
- Excellent communication skills required.
- Excellent skills in English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official IAEA languages is an asset.
Organizational Setting
The Department of Nuclear Safety and Security (NS) formulates and implements the IAEA's nuclear safety and security programme, which encompasses the IAEA's activities to protect people and the environment from radiation exposure, and responds to the needs of its Member States related to nuclear safety and nuclear security.
The Office of Safety and Security Coordination (NSOC) is located in the Office of the Deputy Director General, Head of the Department. Its mission is to ensure the technical consistency and effective coordination of the IAEA's activities in the nuclear, radiation, transport and waste safety and nuclear security programmes. NSOC comprises three Sections: the Programme and Strategy Coordination Section, the Networks Management and Partnership Section and the Safety Standards and Security Guidance Development Section.
The mission of the Safety Standards and Security Guidance Development Section (SSDS) is to coordinate and support the departmental efforts to ensure that the IAEA's safety standards and nuclear security guidance constitute a comprehensive, up to date, coherent and authoritative suite of internationally agreed and accepted references; to enhance the review-revision process with the implementation of a new information technology platform for the knowledge and content management of the whole series of safety standards and nuclear security guidance; to provide for the maintenance of the safety and security glossaries and to promote the worldwide harmonized use of the Safety Standards publications and Nuclear Security Series publications.
Main Purpose
Under the guidance of the Section Head SSDS, the consultant will provide technical expertise and advice to SSDS with regards to the development of the long-term structure and plan for the Safety Standards, and specifically with the elaboration of an integrated action plan (roadmap) outlining how to implement the strategic objectives of the long-term plan and the priorities identified by the CSS and the Safety Standards Review Committees.
Functions / Key Results Expected
• Offer expert technical guidance for the development of the integrated action plan (roadmap) for the development of the IAEA Safety Standards in accordance with the long-term plan of the CSS. • Propose recommendations for the review and revision, as necessary, of IAEA Safety Standards in a prioritized sequence. • Contribute to the work of the section on revising and updating the process for the preparation of the IAEA Safety Standards. • Provide technical expertise to improve the mechanisms for collecting, analysing and promoting use of feedback from the implementation of Safety Standards in Member States. • Support the organization and conduct of meetings in SSDS.

Qualifications and Experience

- A minimum of 7 years' experience in the field of radiation and nuclear safety.
- Preferably experience in regulatory aspects of radiation and nuclear safety.
- Candidate must have extensive knowledge and previous experience in nuclear and radiation safety.
- Experience in the organization of technical meetings, consultancy meetings.
- Excellent drafting and editing skills, including preparation of presentations.
- Experience in international organizations, and knowledge of nuclear issues, science and technology or development would be an asset.
- Knowledge of the IAEA safety standards would be an asset.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent skills in English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
Remuneration
The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 200, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
