The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA's Major Programme 2, "Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection". This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies. These programmes are supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. The Major Programme's objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes.

The Division of Human Health is organized into four Sections whose objectives are to enhance the capabilities of Member States to address needs related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of health problems through the development and application of nuclear techniques within a framework of quality assurance. The Division of Human Health is organized into four Sections whose objectives are to enhance the capabilities of Member States to address needs related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of health problems through the development and application of nuclear techniques within a framework of quality assurance.

The Applied Radiation Biology and Radiotherapy Section's primary objective is to enhance Member States' capabilities to establish sound policies concerning radiotherapy and cancer treatment, and to ensure the effective and efficient utilization of current and future advanced cancer radiotherapy treatment technologies.

Main Purpose

As a consultant of the Applied Radiation Biology and Radiotherapy Section (ARBR), the Radiotherapy Consultant will contribute specialized technical knowledge and experience to facilitate the International Research Integration system (IRIS), updates to the DIRAC database and formulate surveys to inform on Member States' opinions on future Coordinated Research Projects (CRPs).

Functions / Key Results Expected

The Subscriber shall:

  • Develop a survey to assess radiotherapy machine utilisation in LMICs;
  • Develop a survey to identify and develop research to address the most important radiotherapy management needs in LMIC Member States;
  • Develop report on survey outcome;
  • Advise on health economic impact;
  • Develop CRP proposals to be included in 2024-2025 programme planning based on survey outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Higher Degree - Medical doctor with radiotherapy background
  • Minimum of five years of hospital-based experience in radiotherapy
  • Experience in clinical research
  • Experience with conducting surveys
  • Good IT skills

Remuneration

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 250, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
