Result of Service The consultant is expected to provide inputs to planned outputs including knowledge products and meetings under the ESCWA Centre for Women projects, to support the achievement of its set objectives.

Work Location Beirut

Expected duration The duration of the contract is one year extending from the second week of January 2022 until the last week of December 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) strives to support its member States to better adhere to their international commitments as stipulated by the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the Beijing Declaration and Platform of Action, the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, and the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. In delivering high quality support to member countries, the ESCWA Centre for Women under Custer 2 on Gender Equality, Population and Inclusive Development, provides analytical research papers, policy briefs and technical materials, as well as interactive tools, along with capacity building workshops and the organisation of expert group meetings.

In this context ESCWA seeks to recruit a consultant with work experience in gender equality and women's empowerment to contribute to ESCWA's efforts in advancing its work on these topics. The Consultant will support ESCWA's efforts to increase policy coherence amongst member States and promote improved capacities of institutions and other stakeholders. Specific focus will be given to gender justice for all women and girls, combatting violence against women and the WPS agenda.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) preferably in Gender Studies, Sociology, Economics, or other social science or related field. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in socio-economic development, policy analysis, sociological research or related area. Research experience on gender-related issues is desirable. Experience in the Arab region is desirable. Language: Fluency in English is required. Fluency in Arabic is desirable..
